Hi Dave,

I apologize for the delay. I've posted on a few other threads regarding the recall; it's currently in the interim status, which is when parts are developed and tested. If you'd like, you can sign up at recalls.mopar.com so that you are alerted by email when the parts are available. You can also see any past recalls that were completed and get more information about the recalls themselves as well.

I've heard they won't be available until sometime next year. That's pretty lame for a NHTSA safety recall.

My alternator needs replacement and FCA is demanding I pay dealership first before they reimburse me. Already told to expect pay for a new battery. So freaking lame. Never had this response from Ford. I am stuck now dont have the $1240 for alternator let alone the $300+ for the battery. So pissed.

$1240 for the alternator??!?!? Holy crap stay sway from that STEALership!! Wow unbelievable. You can scoop alternators for less than a hundo and labor for removal/install is less than an hour (on a 3.6) Really easy job to do yourself if you want to try. Just a few bolts...

End of story.... got reimbursed by FCA within or under a month for the full $1232. I dont think any other dealership would have charged me that amount for a new Alternator. I do blame Fair Oaks Jeep Dealership (Chantilly, VA) for the high cost... maybe it was because months earlier I asked for a HVAC blower fan replacement under their one year warranty for malfuctioning within 8 months of install/repair ... who knows. I just cant believe it is that expensive.

*I know i misspelled malfunctioning, but when I was ready to correct it, it just felt appropriate :)

Glad you got "paid back", such a stupid procedure implemented by ......? My 2014 still sits mostly in my garage, don't want to deal with it quitting and having it towed in this weather! An alternator, for goodness sake, AN ALTERNATOR!!!!!!!! :slapfight: Dave

Yeh....I'm getting a little perturbed. They have had plenty of time to acquire alternators since the recall was announced. I cringe every time the wife leaves the house in her '14. I love my 2 Grand Cherokees but Jeep definitely has the worst response time to recalls requiring parts that I have ever seen.

I'm wondering why NHTSA isn't lighting a little fire under their slow butts.

Isn't part of the delay due to the fact that they are redesigning a new alternator to address the diode failure vice simply acquiring new ones?

That might be an argument, except that the recall doesn't include later MY JGC's. What are they putting in '15 and newer Jeeps? Did they change the power steering so it doesn't bugger the alternator? Something was changed, because newer models aren't included in the recall. How about a little transparency for the customers.

Fair point(s) for sure.

IIRC in 2016 they went to a different electric steering setup (no longer EHPS).. not sure what changed in 2015..

I suppose it is possible they changed the pump controller firmware in 2015 to lengthen runtimes and thus reduce the frequency of on/off cycles.. but I don't know..
