My wife and I took our 2011 Grand Cherokee to the Anza Borrego Desert State Park in Southern California (Anza-Borrego Desert State Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). It is a huge park with lots of 4WD and hiking options.

We camped at Tamarisk Grove (http://www.jeepgarage.org/members/4362-albums83-picture2293.jpg), which actually has trees to protect you and your tent from the desert sun. The main campground (Palm Canyon) is near the Visitor Center and town of Borrego Springs, but doesn't look like a good place to camp in the heat.

The main hike is 1.5 miles from the Palm Canyon campground to the oasis, and a must do! There are numerous other hikes throughout the park of varying length and difficulty.

We did two 4WDs, each of which was around 8 miles round trip, and easy. The Seventeen Palms destination is pictured at http://www.jeepgarage.org/members/4362-albums83-picture2291.jpg. Font's Point Wash (http://www.jeepgarage.org/members/4362-albums83-picture2294.jpg) was two miles of wide sandy wash, then a trail to a spectacular lookout (badlands, Salton Sea, Mexico, mountain ranges).

We also went to the Salton Sea on the way to Palm Springs en route back to San Francisco. Note the elevation on the navigation system at http://www.jeepgarage.org/members/4362-albums83-picture2292.jpg.

The following pictures are not of the Jeep, but of the great scenery!

I'd thank you if I could do it from my phone. Like the above poster, I'll have to check this place out.

Awesome pics, and a great suggestion! I've been to Joshua Tree, but have not yet been to Anza-Borrego. It looks like a great place to visit.

Fish Cyn Wash is another easy and pretty fun 4WD trip out that way. No problem for my '11 Laredo with QD II Just don't take your pregnant wife......as I learned the hard way.
