I am now the proud owner of a Silver 06 Limited JGC! I have been looking for months now and finally found her! So far the only problem I have is the REC radio has a broken Nav joystick and it seems to not want to read cd's very well.

My question is this. If I replace the REC unit with an aftermarket unit, will I lose UConnect, VES connection etc? If thats the case I would rather buy another REC unit and continue to have these options.

Congrats on the new rig!

I am not 100% positive on aftermarket options but I'm pretty sure there are no aftermarket options that will integrate the factory hands free and VES.

You can get a new joystick and solder it onto the circuit board. I repaired mine myself. If you look up REC joystick repair on the google, there is a Chrysler 300 forum that has a how too step by step instructions to perform the repair. This how too also includes a part numbe. This obviously wont fix the poorly reading discs but it will make the unit much more useful for much cheaper than a whole unit.

Ultimately I rarely use CD's I mainly use my phone or my Ipod and use RCA cables to 3.5mm plug. It doesnt work 100%, the rear VES doesnt actually play on the head unit till it recieves a sound input, so its not uncommon to miss a second or 2 of the begining of a song here and there but its a great cheap option.

I did a little research after I posted and found that you lose almost everything. So it looks like Ill look to either repair or replace with another REC unit.

if I were you I would do as stated above and repair it or I would replace it with a mygig RER. I put an rer in my jeep and it is a million times better. the REC is the worst factory nav I have ever seen in my life.

I was actually looking at that this morning. The one I found on Ebay was like $900. Does that seem about right? If not, what is the total price I can expect?

I also had an REC factory Nav unit in my WK and the screen suddenly went black and wouldn't work anymore. But you can actually put a Mygig RHR, which is the upgrade to the RER (which I had installed previously before I got an RHR) and it has some nice new features including wireless Bluetooth audio streaming and Sirius Travel Link. It works awesome and flawlessly in my 2005 WK Hemi thanks to the Lockpick adapter from Coastaletech. Plus it unlocks more features of the Mygig. I got my RHR for $718 on Ebay, don't pay $900 lol. The same installation goes for the RHR but make sure it's a low speed unit! Hope this helps
