Hi all,

Recently I have hit an emu with my longitude. My insurer AAMI give my vehicle to some repairer in Adelaide, SA. They advised me that the front bumper, headlight, fog light, etc. need to be ordered from US.

Has anyone in Australia got some experience about ordering parts from US? The repairer says it takes 4-6 weeks for the parts to get in, but sitting at 4 weeks there's still no part. So how long would it actually take to get the parts?

I really hope I had optioned the rental car when insuring, oops.

Here's a image for the damage, which is really not that significant.

This is one of those things that irritates the crap out of me, poor communication. That 4-6 week timeline, that is for the actual shipping part. You then need to add any extra time involved. Is it already on order with Jeep Aus, or does a fresh order need to be created? Can they fill from stock or are parts made to order? If made to order then what is their timeline?
With one item I import, it is 6 weeks on the water, production is 90 days, and there is a lead time before production starts, so it can 6 months from needing something to actually receiving it.
So many people get scared to say something is going to be 3-4 months, and would rather give a quicker time that only involves part of the timeline, then tell you more later. I wish they would just be upfront and say it takes bloody ages…expect to truly wait X amount of time.

I'm not saying it will be 3-4 months, maybe their timeline of 4-6 weeks is their actual supply time. You have chosen the shorter of the two dates of course, as you would want it to. I would ask for clarification, and I personally do tell people to just let me know the truth and not feel the need to try to keep me happy with a shorter one that doesn't exist.
This is one more reason I switched from Woolworths to GIO Platinum, unlimited days of hire car, it only takes a few days and the premium difference is gone. It would only be a pain if the hire car couldn't tow when we need it. At which point I would make sure that is rectified. Cross that bridge when I need to if it ever happens.

Ouch Skywalker. Can't add anything to what Snuke and Steve have already said and hope it gets sorted relatively quickly but just wanted to welcome you to the forum also.

How was the Emu by the way?

Hi Skywalker, a friend of mine owns a Crash Repairs in Sydney and when he heard that we were about to buy a Jeep Cherokee (MY15) he warned us that parts would be 10 weeks.

Sorry mate :(

Thanks for all the replies. Ring the repairer again, they say the parts will arrive next Tuesday and the repair will be done by Friday. Let's wait for next week:)
