Interesting thread guys. Just some additional information, I'm not sure when they'll be released, but he 750's are up on the website.

BlackVue - Full HD 1080p Dash Cameras with GPS

The 750 offers full HD on the rear camera and the LCD screen. No idea on the cost...but judging from the rear-camera (night time) video they have posted, and the assumed increased price, I don't think it's worth it over the 650?

Anyway, the 650 looks great, I'm looking into this now because a dashcam is useful on road, but I would like to get footage of my offroad adventures as well, and a GoPro just isn't as good it seems.

I also REALLY like the way you guys are running the wires and just plugging the 12v into the center console. Great location, as I wouldn't want to hardwire, and I don't use that plug anyway!

For additional information, the blackbox mycar seems to have a lot of very useful info:

HD on the rear screen wont make any difference with tint, I like the compactness with no LCD screen. Used to have 2 separate cams with screens and it is to distracting IMO :)

Chris, Malcolm, if either/both of you could post a screen shot of how much dash you have showing during daylight that would help.

Steve, re Horizontal polarising film, is that fine to run as a small strip, or does the entire windscreen need to be coated?
Will get on for you today Snuke ;)

Agreed, looked at the 750's but thought that they were too big.
Didnt want or need the touch screen and prefer the compact size of the 650

Less chance of catching some low life's eye that would be happy breaking into the car.

Would really like a system with small discreet front and rear cameras that went back to a box that mounted under dash or seats.

Exactly what I want Mark. I've looked at vehicle Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) but can't find one with the right feature set.

For a remote system... as well as the cameras, you'd need to run a GPS antenna to clear sky as well. In a perfect world, this could be built into the cams giving a diversity array when two cameras are fitted.

Cheers,
Steve

Seems to be the ideal system to me but as you say, the systems on the market dont have the right features yet.
Gives the option to put most of the hardware in a concealed box out of the way enabling you to make the camera units better and smaller also gives an option to use a nice Solid State Drive.

Gave up waiting and went for the 650, better than nothing!
So knowing my luck, now I have spent the coin on the 650's next week they will release the system that I really want

I was trying to reduce the amount of sky, as that seems to screw up a lot of videos, I will raise it up, and reduce the dash's presence.

I stayed in the car for 5mins until it went into parking mode, the WiFi stayed on for several minutes after that, I left, so not sure when it stopped.

I decided to read the Jeep manual re power outlets, and learnt that the battery symbol for the centre console outlet is not there to tell me it is supplying 12v, but to tell me it is wired directly to battery and powered all of the time, therefore getting drained all of the time. The Key symbol on the outlet in the media cubby means it is only on once the car hits ACC mode or more, and then powered of when the turned off and door shut.
I moved the plug to now be plugged in under my brake controller in the centre cubby, and it is working as I want, powering off one the door closes.
I will check the cable on Sat to see if it being crimped at all, as it seems to be getting more downward pressure from that position. I have a hole in the cubby for my brake controller, so I can move the wire through there if needed.

The 650s fuse and excess cable are now all kept under the left knee area panel, so even less cable sticking out, it is cleaner than before.
Wouldnt it be more nicer and less tampering if you wired all additional portable accessories like camera or radar to the fusebox - ive used a "fuse tap" and works great. No need to cut or splice wires behind the fusebox. You can still maintain fuse and additional fuse with a fuse tap, yet still close the fuse box door.

Easy to remove if you sell the car.

So...I want to verify that my thinking is correct, or have someone tell me I'm wrong if not!

I can buy the 16GB 650, and just purchase a separate 64GB SD card, correct? Also, is the system overwriting, in the sense that...once the card is full, would I have to manually delete all the footage, or will the system automatically overwrite the most dated footage?

Yes you can use a larger card and yes it automatically overwrites Polizei.

Thanks, I'm in the US though.

Time to update your profile to show a location. It's helpful for all, especially when posting in the Export threads.

Re SD card, it suggests formatting the card every couple if weeks. 64GB will give you several average days of recordings.

Plugging into the never used accessories plug is as simple as it gets.

Thanks, got it updated. Do you know the approximate length (in time) the 64GB card will hold?
