My crankshaft bearing was destroyed last week. Driving a normal 100 km/h on the highway the engine made a "BRRRRKKRRBBRR" noise and within 200 or 300 meters the engine was dead.
I have a 4.7i High Output from November 2002, and it seems to be a huge problem to get another engine. I heard that at this moment here in the Netherlands two or three other cars with the same engine are already waiting for months for another (revised or second hand) engine.
Can anyone confirm that this engine is hardly available in the Netherlands?
If not, is it possible to repair this engine? Can I change the crankshaft bearings and crakshaft successfully? Or do I have the risk that the damage is more than that?
After the noise, which got louder and louder, I stopped the car myself, but the engine still can turn around (the garage did so to investigate, but they stopped the engine whitin 10 seconds, because the sound was enough to know what happened).
