Week old Summit. I noticed that sometimes when I stop at like a redlight I get diesel exhaust coming through the air vents. Doesn't happen while moving. Dealer is telling me "that's normal" and to set the climate control on recirculation and not fresh air. Doesn't sound normal to me as I shouldn't be getting pre-cat exhaust through the vents....

The motor cooks off some manufacturing lubes and stickers which create some unusual smells. I'd give it another week before letting them tear into it.

I have had my Limited 4x4 EcoDiesel for exactly one year today, and have noticed that whenever I am at a stop light or sign with an accompanying tail wind, I get the diesel exhaust smell in the cabin.
There was a thread about this several months ago, and it has to do with how strong the vent fans are that draw fresh air into the cabin. They are so strong that even in a no wind condition, if someone is smoking outside the vehicle, the fans will draw the odor into the cabin and you will smell it despite the cabin air filter.

At 2,600 miles, I've never noticed any odors in my Overland, just the sweet smell of the great leather interior. My friends are learning a thing or two about modern Diesel engines. No odors with just a slight clatter during initial acceration and no noise at cruise. Auto Diesels have come a long way.
2500 miles and it has an extremely strong exhaust smell at least twice per week. So strong that I've had to drive with the windows down while raining. The vehicle also has no power at that time. It barely responds to throttle input and the MPG plummets. Dealer initally said put AC in recirc. Crazy. Had the latest TSB applied due to CEL. Was told that may solve the problem since it may be caused by excessive fuel being injected. 5 miles from dealer the CEL was back on. Been waiting 2 weeks now for NOX sensors. This is the 6th time in the shop in less than 2500 miles. At this point I want my Hemi back
Can you describe your driving pattern? How many miles do you commute? How often do you drive 15 miles without stops at 50+ mph? Thanks.
Are you sure its actually diesel exhaust you are smelling? I smell the oil smell all the time when stopped. The newer diesel oil they are using has a very strong, distinct smell. My 2012 Ram cummins used to smell like this too until I changed to Valvoline Diesel Oil. Just a thought.
I drive 60 miles round trip to work that is 50/50 highway speed/congestion. The smell is absolutely exhaust. It is episodic and always associated with a period of almost unsafe lack of power. If I were towing something at the time, I don't think it could even climb a small hill.
I just got it back. Took over a week to get a NOX sensor from Jeep. Only drove it a short time, but it performed better than at any time since I bought it. Good acceleration, responsive to the throttle. They did say they went through the exhaust and found some not completely tight bolts. That wouldn't surprise me since I had to pull over on the highway and tighten a bolt hanging out 3/4inch in one of the undercarriage covers with a whopping 45 miles on it. I did hear the lunch-time pot smoking guys filmed by the Detroit news station smoking joints then going back to the assembly line who were intitially fired at the GC plant were rehired. Maybe that's the group putting these bolts on after their lunch break

Good to hear. The reason I asked about driving habits is due to the DPF regen. Short trip only use will almost guarantee that it's trying to regen all the time. Your driving is well suited to proper DPF health.
In reference to your lose bolts, the guys that added an aftermarket DEF injector skid plate almost unanimously found lose skid plate bolts. I spent a good 30 minutes tightening bolts under mine. Those weed toking union guys don't have to do squat to keep a job. Pitiful.

Is this an issue on the jeeps as well aside from this cabin filter issue? And is it something that keeps recurring (eg during Regens etc)? Are these typically faint odors or really strong noxious ones? This has me nervous about ordering now.
Also saw this last night around the different smells; not sure if 100% relevant in the jeeps vs rams

I have personally had a few instances where I had to open the windows to get some fresh air in...at -15, you aren’t too happy about it! Other times, a faint smell of exhaust that just needs a cracking of window...To say it is wide spread, I would or could not say. I will be changing the air filter and see if this happens again.( Can't see how this is going to solve, mostly to mask, IMHO ) Mostly happened to me on longer trips or at a full stop after driving for a while... I can say that within 10K miles, must of happen a dozen times....lost count. I would like to see if others have truly encountered this as well...My dealer looked at me like I was from another planet when I first mentioned it to him....now, when I showed him the TSB this week, he chuckled and said, ok I'll order you a filter...

This happened to me as well in first 2000 miles about 4/5 times. Chrystler created a star case for it, but dealer unable to replicate the situation. I am currently at 10k miles and haven't really noticed the smell recently, but I am glad to see TSB.
