Hey Guys,

Would it be possible to add remote start to an 05 Wk by buying new keyfobs with the remote start button and adding the build code for the remote start to the vin and having the dealer reflash the computer with the starscan? Or are the ignition locks different? It looks to me like its just a software thing.

Not going to work.

You need the module, long range antenna, hood tilt switch and probably some other various gizmos as well.

If you have the upgraded security system, the mopar kit does not work anyway.

You're better off getting an aftermarket system installed by a good shop.

I have the Mopar remote start on my '05, but there is a small separate remote for starting.

i had the oem remote start. it stopped working and then started making the alarm go off when it worked. got it replaced by a viper. day and night. i can remote start from like half a mile away.

Whats this module thing? It seems to me like its something that comes with the mopar system to override the factory programming and enable remote start. Couldn't this be all together avoided by updating the computer with a remote start code, or does the module do something else? The hood switch seems more like a safety thing, but I will want one so I will purchase one, but will I need to get new harnesses to hook it up? I really want to keep a factory 07 remote rather than anything aftermarket.

Could the mopar system be made to work with a 07 remote? It may be that they added a remote because there was no extra button on the fob at the time.

While it's true that the hood switch is just a safety feature, the module is designed to expect a signal from that switch. You would have to figure out the voltage the closed switch provides, and feed that back into the module to bypass the system altogether.

There is no software setting that you can enable to add remote start to a 2005 that does not have it. The module that you need to purchase (whether aftermarket or otherwise) is what actually scans for the remote start signal, and once received, initiates the start by interfacing with the SKREEM (Sentry Key REmote Entry Module). There is nothing on an 05 that can pick up a remote start request. It is physically not there. In theory, the SKREEM could be re-programmed to do such a thing, but it would take a team of engineers and a lot of money to do so. In other words, its not going to happen.

Newer vehicles may have the remote start integrated at the factory. The 2005s do not. End of story.

I'm not sure if a 2007 remote could be programmed to the factory remote start module, but I would doubt it. In those intervening years, a whole lot could have changed with the frequencies and protocols that they use (though this I am uncertain of).

I saw one on Youtube without the remote start button. Had to press unlock 3x and then lock 2x and the car would start. I'm about to buy a Code Alarm remote start for my WK. I feel like with Viper I'm just paying for the name. And the Code Alarm is only $92 on ebay.

Yes viper is over priced, that looks like a good alternative to viper. But, I wanted something that will work with the 07 fobs and their dedicated remote start button.

I have the Mopar remote start kit. There is a lot to it! Its still in two boxes I received it in. Too much of a pain in the ass and you need to programmed keys to program the remote. I currently only have one.
Think I paid $200 for kit from a member here. Be happy to send it to you for that.
