Flashing Body Control Module - dealer only?

I have a 2015 Cherokee Limited. Changed the battery (didn't connect a temporary power supply unfortunately) and afterwards the engine management light was lit.

I have AlfaOBD and various other OBD tools, the error won't clear. The error description is 'Implausable signal from Door Switch A (drivers side)'. Nothing seems wrong with the door functions though, all works as expected.

Also, stop/start says unavailable on the instrument panel and the Stop/Start error light is also on the dash. Car drives fine otherwise.

From searching it seems like there is a TSB for something similar and the solution is to flash the BCM with the latest firmware. Am I right in thinking only dealer can do this with WiTech? I'm in the UK so Jeeps are not common here, Alfa's and Fiat's are though. Is there any consumer software for flashing or anyone here who can flash remotely?

thanks
Ben

Have you tried disconnecting the battery and letting it sit for maybe an hour and then reconnecting? Never hurts to try a reboot.

Tried that, thanks. Had my local mechanic look at it and he couldn't figure it out either. Have a used BCM arriving tomorrow, hopefully that will solve it - otherwise it's booked into the dealer 🙄
Sometimes AlfaOBD won't clear codes, however when I hook up my HP Tuners MPVI2 and VCM Scanner it will clear any code, i suppose you could swap out the BCM, however if you know someone with HP Tuners that might be an option
Got the dealer to look at and have them the info I found for a similar TSB generating error code U0216. My error code was U0516 (driver for switch).

The restored configuration of the BCM and fixed the issue, no need for any new parts.
Hi folks, I have the same situation with my Jeep Cherokee 2015, 2.0 Diesel multijet.

The error code is U0516 - Implausible data received from the driver switch A. This is really annoying, local garages, patrol mechanics, and Jeep dealership tried to remove the code, but they couldn't.

The Stop/Start ! and Engine check is on in my dash, the dealership advised me to replace the new BCM. I was wondering if you have faced the same situation and how did it got fixed?

Any suggestions would be appreciated....

I live in North Wales, Bangor, unfortunately, there is no official Jeep dealership around here. Where have you taken your car to fix it?

Please help me, I am in a desperate situation. Replacing the BCM is cost me around £ 800.
You need to have a jeep dealership do a proxy alignment on the vehicle. It can only be done by Chrysler . The software is not available anywhere after market.

Hi,

Glad to hear that the issue have been solved without buying a new part. I have done the diagnostic check several times, and the same error U0516 - Implausible data received from the driver switch came. The local mechanics couldn't clear the code.

Thanks for sharing this information. Would you please kindly share your dealership contact number and address?

Cheers,
Amir

I have the same problem...1 dealer no idea and another who won't try reset just replace ( £900). All info of where to take my Jeep greatly received.

To clarify my location with the Jeep is Midlands,UK. Willing and able to travel in the UK to get this resolved and the dash lights to "go away". The car is all OK otherwise.
You just need AlfaOBD and an MX+ OBD2 adapter. This will allow you to do a Proxy Alignment on your own, no dealer needed.
Hi, can you share details of the dealer, because I have same problem with my Jeep Cherokee.
Regards
All, remember, there are two different things here... :

1. Flashing of the BCM (e.g. actually updating its firmware). This cannot be done at home as it requires a dealer WiTech subscription. (technically someone could purchase a subscription and equipment but my understanding is it's a few thousand USD/yr.)

2. Running a 'proxy align' which resolves most 'flashing odometer' issues when caused by the BCM not recognizing one or more modules on the CANBUS. This can be done @ home using AlfaOBD or DiagFCA
