Hey all,

I've been away from the Jeep Scene for about 4 years, as I owned two FX35's back to back. My wife and I have been on the hunt for a new SUV for roughly 8 months now, and I was able to hold out for the 2014 Overland. I'm so happy to say that I picked it up yesterday. I'll get some more pictures of the rig along with it's sibling, 2013 Chrysler 300 S V6 also in white. Thanks to all of you for the great information and for helping make the decision to buy the Jeep such an easy one!

I always thought the FX35 looked sharp. For you 2 who have had them, what did you like and dislike about the FX35? Thanks.

Actually I'm about to do the same thing (FX35 to Overland). The FX35 has been really flawless for me. Not a single mechanical issue, fun to drive with a great growl, excellent dealer/service experiences.

But now I want something made in America, with a some more utility (size and ability) and a little more current (the FX35 is in need of a mid-cycle upgrade).

I second the above comment, my wife and I were looking for more utility as the FX35 is extremely limited on space. I had an 06' and a 10', both were fun as heck to drive, but in the end I wanted more practicality and we dont need all of the size that the QX56 brings to the table just yet. My experience with Infiniti service was second to none, and I will miss getting my car picked up and dropped off for something as little as an oil change. Also, I feel as though the forward direction of Infiniti is a bit cloudy with the recent announcement that they are renaming the entire lineup, and lack of technological advancements, especially when compared to Jeep, etc.

Congrats! I remember getting my srtpedals from you.

No way! I remember you! I was getting rid of my 05' Jeep for my first FX35 at that time. Great to see you are still around.

My 2003 FX35 has been a workhorse. When it comes to driving, it has been great. No major problems and almost 180k miles. Inifniti service has been amazing. Loaner cars for any kind of service.

One major problem has been cargo space and rear seat entry. Getting in and out of the back seat is probably the worst thing. Recently got a JX35. Pretty amazing with all the bells and whistles for under $55k. Just not enough power for my taste. Will be giving it up to my father when I get my hands on my GC SRT. :thumbsup:

The timing of this thread couldn't be better. Two years ago I was replacing my G35 with a JGC or FX, and i went with the FX. Now that my lease is ending in few months I am looking at the Jeep again, back then not many people went from Infiniti to Jeep and I see few of you guys are in the same boat as I am now. Please offer me some advice on what makes the JGC better than FX. Here are my reasons: I have 2 kids (2 and 4 years old), I don't go faster than 60mph, I live in NYC, I need more space although we somehow manage with the FX and a cargo bin on the roof. This time I want something more comfortable but I am afraid of the dealer support and quality, please offer your personal reasons for the switch. I am cross shopping the JGC, Touareg, X5 or 2013 535 (i know, different cars).

Maybe I can offer some help here.
First the like: Power-this car is fast, not neck breaking fast but it can really go.
Handling-some say this car handles like a sedan, no it does NOT, I had few performance sedans in my life and its nothing like a sedan it has some roll and you can feel the weight shift more than on a sedan.
Quality-is great, I can see few imperfections but nothing to make me go crazy about, very few rattles. Overall I love the car, its great on the highway and in the city.
Dislikes:
Space!!!! front is ok, but this ****er lacks cargo space. I knew about this when we got ours but overtime it just got very frustrating trying to fill in the luggage into every empty space you could find. It was so bad that I got the cargo bin for the roof (we have 2 kids). Back seat has no space for a 3rd person with two car seats, if we have another person upfront my wife sits on one of her ass cheeks in the back sideways and she's not happy. Transmission-this 7-speed POS sucks, I had the old 5 speed in my G35 and it was excellent. Obviously it saves fuel but who cares, its supposed to be a sports SUV. It struggles to find the right gear and sometimes it has a mind of its own and starts downshifting aggressively when slightly slowing down.
Electronics-out of date, the whole LCD interface is very outdated I am sure 2014's will have a redesigned UI.
Heated/Cooled seats-although a nice feature its very problematic due to it being complex, it uses hot/cold air as opposed to old fashioned heating elements.

Other than that its a nice ride and I would definitely get another one if I wasn't getting bored with cars every few years, I would probably go for the FX 50 this time around just for the extra kick, but I am also getting older and with 2 kids in the back I have very little desire to go fast too often.

My wife had a 2005 FX35, before we traded it in for a 2012 M37x. I have a 2012 JGC Overland 4x4 Hemi ORAII. I completely agree with DjinnBabba:

I drive into Manhattan fairly often, and everyone in my family prefers making the trip in my Overland. It's easily the most comfortable ride. The Quadra Lift suspension smooths out the crappiest NYC roads, including FDR Drive. Although a 535 would provide easier access to your toddlers' car seats and, when they're older, easier access for them to get themselves into and out of it, a JGC would provide much more room for strollers and other cargo. I'd imagine that the Overland's power liftgate would be very useful to you. I've never felt that my Overland was too big for the city. The only downside to it is that Manhattan parking garages often surcharge $10 for parking SUVs.

I went from a 2002 grand cherokee limited to a 2007 infiniti g35x. I must say the infiniti has been great. Beautiful car, no problems, and a ton of power. My wife needed a new car 6 monhs ago so it made sense to keep the bulletproof infinit for her and I would get another SUV. I was between the fx35 and wk2. I loved the fx35 from a feature and reliably standpoint but wasn't crazy about the looks and ended up with the jeep. Now I have the best of both worlds.

FX35/50 was on my list before I got my Jeep. As others have said, drove great, lots of nice features, looked and sounded awesome, but not enough space. Could not take the dog and 4 people in the vehicle, which means that the dog would want the rear seats down which would mean I had a 2 person SUV. Had the same issue with RX350.

The dog wants the rear seats down anyways, so I still ended up with only a 2 seater. he is at least kind enough to let people use the rear seats when he doesn't require me to take him somewhere.

For reference, a better picture of the Mojave Copper 2010 FX35 and Obsidian Black 2006 FX35. I like these so much I owned two of them for about a 5 month period, then got an Acura TSX to replace the 06. Realize I hated the TSX and then got the 2013 300S to replace that. Like I said before, if you want fun and no utility, drive the FX35. However if you would like additional utility and continued fun, get the Hemi WK2

How would you compare the torque and power of the hemi to the FX? (Curious on your personal opinion rather than numbers) JGC weights much more but I am also curious how the new 8 speed delivers power compared to the old tranny. To give you an example I drove the 2012 overland and it was OK but not as fast as the FX, the I drove my friends RAM pickup with the Hemi and was very impressed, go figure....

My wife has owned one since 2006. It's a 2005 Gen 1.

I've maintained it since she bought it and that means religious fluid changes with premium synthetics and 30,000 mile transmission fluid evac and refresh.

At 80,000 miles the trans died (lost reverse) and had to be rebuilt. :eek:

Other than it having an appetite for brake pads it's been a solid vehicle.
