Hmm, possible alternative

Considering the Cherokee is a 2014, and it is only July, I would say it might be out right on (what should be) schedule. All these early releases screw up the universe.

I remember as a little kid, the first episode of Bonanza every September was commercial free and ran 45 minutes. The last 15 minutes had the cast of the show introducing the new Chevy line up. And, the next day I (my father actually) could go to the dealer for a test drive. Times were good back then with a chicken in every pot and an Impala in every driveway. :lol:

Back on topic - in recent years Subaru has gone from turning out buckets of rust to some very formidable vehicles. If I were you I would be taking a test drive. But, unless I needed a vehicle now, I'd wait to at least look at the Cherokee in person. You still might buy the Subaru, but at least it will be a choice between two vehicles.

That's excellent advice. I tell customers routinely that I only want to sell them a vehicle they love. If they don't love it, they shouldn't buy it. For some that means going to see every other option on the market, so if that's what you need to do in order to be sure, then do it. Just make sure you take note of areas where one has a leg up on the other. That CVT would be a deal-killer for me; I'm so glad Jeep got rid of them.

I have looked at the Mazda CX5. With the 2.5 it might compare with the 2.4. But, want the 3.2 and the CX5 just falls short.
I don't plan to buy for a while anyway. So I can wait. Just so they get it right out the gate.

Autoweek just announced that Mopar had taken the unusual step of cancelling some drive sessions for the Cherokee because opportunities presented themselves for improving the drive train.

Still claiming to hit the fall dealer lot target.

Maybe their ears [and other parts] are burning from the 2014 GC 8-speed owner surveys?

Crosstek vs Cherokee. I looked at a Crosstek my neighbor bought. It is cool, nothing negative, just looking too small for my needs.

If the dimensions of the Cherokee seem alright to you and you have waited this long, I think a few months is a drop in the bucket. I think Cherokee will give all SUVs in it's class a run for their money and I like to buy American as much as possible.

As for me I looked at the Cherokee cargo dimensions behind the rear seat ~24ft3 to 27ft3 (the rear seat slides for and aft) and compared it to my JK Unlimited at 31ft3 and decided that the Cherokee will be just too small. I do go camping, do outdoor stuff, etc. If I was alone almost anything would work but since the wife and kids want to ride inside the car the GC is looking like the vehicle we'll pursue.

The Grand Cherokee has about 36ft3 behind the rear seats and more elbow room.
