After i changed my rear brake pads i had some strane smell coming from the rear of the jeep. I felt the wheels with my hand and the wheels where reasonably warm. Then i measured with an infrared temperature reader and found the rear brakes quite some hotter then the front ones. This seems to be coming from the difference between the solid rear discs and ventilated front ones.
The temperature ofcourse depends a lot on where you where driving. If it was city driving with stop and go traffic, they can become quite hot, while when you only drive on the highway (and don't brake), they should be quite cool.
Compare the brakes on the same axle and if the temperatures are the same, its probably ok. If they become hot after driving highway for some time, then it doesn't seem to be normal.
