Thought I'd post my recent discovery on this Forum also. I recently decided to change EGR on my 2010 5.7 and discovered--I DON'T HAVE ONE!!

And apparently I'm not supposed to. My build sheet says "NAS 50 State Emissions" and the dealer parts computer confirms an EGR was never specced for this engine.

My question: How common is this, and what does this mean? Thanks!

I am not 100% sure on the workings of the 5.7 with variable valve timing, but typically one of the things that can be accomplished with variable valve timing is the function of an egr valve. All that an egr valve does is get inert gas into the combustion chamber during the intake stroke, and this can be accomplished by adjusting when the exhaust valve opens and closes to allow exhaust to be drawn back into the cylinder.
