Hi everyone, I am new to this forum, I presently have a moded 2dr JK Rubi, but unfortunately the JK isn't super baby friendly. I am a huge off road enthusiast, so my choices for a family car was either Land Rover or Jeep. I have owned both in the past, love both brand equally, I really like the new R.R sport, but what sold me on the jeep is the ecodiesel and the new mid-redesign. As I am getting older, I am really getting sensitive on fuel efficiency and right now I feel Jeep has the best game plan. Not to say I like the fact that Diesel in American made.

I have decided to buy an overland ecodiesel with all options except the DVD pkg.
I am really excited about the performances of the diesel from 0 to 50mph, but it feels really "lethargic" passed 60MPH
I don't drive like a maniac, but I do want to know that when I pass an 18wheeler truck with oncoming traffic.

I haven't hammered the throttle in my jeep yet, but when I've given it about half throttle, it has really picked up and went. The diesel makes this truck feel light.

Diesel is great in all modes. BTW the diesel engine is made in Italy and the transmission Germany, but yes its assembled in USA!

Lol... I meant diesel fuel is made in America. Actually the U.S is one of the largest exporter of diesel, make you wonder why it isn't more popular.:thumbsup:

Hi there, yesterday had a few work colleagues go for a ride in mine, had to overtake on a flat road - I don't like spending much time in the wrong lane, even if there's no oncoming traffic...planted the foot...wooooof....it took off like a rocket....dead silence as all eyes were on the speedo!!! Trust me the diesel has no qualms over 60mph!!! You won't be disappointed.:thumbsup:

The tax on diesel is higher here. We are a large exporter because people in this country are fearful of any change. So we export it from our refineries to other parts of the world that require it.

Diesel is still seen by many to be nasty, smelly and loud engines.

When you say it feels lethargic past 60mph - is this based on driving a 2014 JGC EcoDiesel? That's certainly not how I would describe it. My other vehicles are a 450hp TransAm and an SV650 motorcycle, so I have an idea of what performance feels like. And while you certainly can't compare a 5000+ pound SUV with my 3,000 pound TransAm or my 380 pound moto, I most definitely did not feel the power lacking in the 60mph to <mph deleted due to a public forum> range.

It does matter which mode you're in, with eco mode being the least responsive. But even in eco mode it feels sufficient to me for normal use. And in sport mode it's quite a kick.

Seriously naughtiboy I have given mine a few wot runs out on the open road and lethargic is the last word you would use to describe it, it will take you to way above legal in a blink of an eye, in fact throw it into sport mode and you will give a few so called sporty cars a fright, then you can. Look at them and say yep it's a jeep and it's diesel :thumbsup:

I would love to know where you got your acceleration tests from because they certaintly aren't what i have experienced and read.

In most of the Australian car magazines they put the v8 at 1 second behind the ecodiesel at 0-100klmph.
I have driven several crds in both 5 and 8 speed and the 8 speed goes like the clappers.
I have also driven the v6 and there is no way on earth that it is faster than my ecodiesel.
You must take in account that the crd develops more torque at 1600 rpm that the v8 develops at max revs.
Mixed driving 1200 klms per tank or 740miles (30mpg) is about the norm for me.

Just to clear things up the person you quoted was not me. I was questioning the poster you quoted and stated that I would not call it lethargic.

Just had my 20000 km service done on my 2012 crd 5 speed grand cherokee, the dealer gave me a near new 300 sedan v6 petrol 8 speed for the day , my crd completely outperforms it, having to floor the. 300 to really get it going, where as the crd with it's superior low down torque gives effortless performance, out on the highway the more speed it builds the more it actually feels stronger,it's an amazing engine given the 300 weighs less and also had the 8 speed gearbox

No need to worry about the diesel being sluggish. My 2011 has 56000km on the clock and it accelerates better than any car I've owned above 110km/h. I would imagine that the 8 speed would be even better.

Found myself over(sometimes way over) the highway speed limit without knowing it. And that's in ECO mode.
