I can no longer wait for the diesel so I have to decide on a new vehicle soon. Being an IT geek I am leery of the new UConnect system and concerned about the air suspension. So I am comparing the GC to an ML which is simpler tech wise but much more expensive. What is the latest version of UConnect and have the early bugs been fixed? Since I am keeping the car for a long time do I have reason to be concerned about either the 3.6 or hemi, the transmission or air suspension?
Is your 2014 GC reliable?

Yeah consider the extended or even the lifetime warranty. I'm only 1,000 miles into mine but knock on wood no problems with air suspension or anything else. I only use basics on uconnect but so far all is good. As an IT guy you know software gets updated so uconnect will eventually get bug fixes as things crop up.

Not sure if you keep up on the diesel production thread... Looks like there is product being built this month. As far as the tech, simpler doesn't mean better. I had an ML and it was extremely expensive to maintain. Also at least with the new UConnect they have updated quickly and corrected problems. My Nav in my ML didn't work right for voice commands from day one and took 3 years for the update to come out.
I suggest you try both and get your own opinion but just done assume because the Mercedes seems more straight forward that it will be problem free. I will take a radio problem over an oil leak any day.

So far so good, though I am only 600 miles in.
The only issue I have personally seen is I have a 64GB Flash/USB Drive plugged into the console and I have had to remove and reseat it 2 or 3 times to be "re-recognized". I believe others have seen improvements with SD over USB and smaller capacities, though details are in the UConnect thread.
I did do the 7/70k maximum care warranty through the site mentioned in this forum (thanks you jeep garage!) as I too was worried about quadra lift and uconnect. Lot of technology in this Overland.

Extended warranties are absolutely worthless if you end up getting rid of a car in the first year because it's always in the shop (lesson learned the hard way, twice).
Having said that, besides a few glitches here and there with the Uconnect, my Jeep is doing really well & I couldn't be happier. I also got tired of waiting for the diesel and caved in and bought a 3.6L.

6400 miles and Ive never been left stranded. Did have the christmas tree panel light issue but nothing ever came of it, the dealer had it for a few hours and it hasnt done it since.
From a transportation point of view mine has been 100% reliable. There are some gremlins running through the system that are sometimes annoying. But, if you are going to keep it a long time, they should all be fixed before you get rid of it.
The absolute longest I will keep mine is 5 years. I did buy a 5year warranty, because I don't have all that much confidence that all the expensive accessories will be trouble free. This is my first extended warranty after having owned over a dozen new cars/trucks.

You can wait up until the manufactures 3yr/36,000mi is up to purchase the additional plan through Chrysler. The price does go up marginally each year but it gives you the piece of mind to wait and see if it's a "keeper" and then purchase the plan.

After having lots of trouble with a 2011 overland. Going to an X5 35d, we are giving the 2014 summit a try for a year or so.
So far we had to go in to balance the tires, the fender trim piece on the rear passenger side wheel well is misaligned, the remote start turns off the climate control on entry, the steering wheel moans tilting up, a creaking sunroof, and sometimes the settings on the uconnect change.
Not thrilled so far. None of our BMWs have had this many assembly problem. But it rides well and is comfortable. Planning to bring it in soon to get theses issues addressed. Hopefully the service has improved since 2011!

You can get a refund on the unused portion and or transfer? I have always had extended Warranty on just about everything I drove.

I was also looking at the ML. The 2014GC is based on the ML.The last of the Daimler Reign. For the Money the GC is a much better choice. Ride and quiet cabin are equal if not better than the ML. UConnect and Air suspension issues can and will be worked out. For what the ML was going to cost me I could buy two GC. Mine has some issues and the dealer network is not as strong but at the end of the day I am very comfortable with my GC. Plus at the end of the day I saved myself a lot of money.More than enough to buy the extended warranty.Which can be bought anytime during the New car Jeep warranty. You will miss the Mercedes Loaner program though. But thats why you pay double the price for the ML.

I can afford an amazing rental car from those premium rental places for the difference in the maintenace cost and still leave money in my pocket to treat myself to lunch. The way I see it the CDJ dealer is treating me out from here on in :lol:
