Dealer said it includes the Fob (part 68143505AC) but not the actual key that goes with it. Huh? An old thread said it did.

Does anyone know if the Fob replacement is supposed to include the actual key part (and cut too)??? What has been your experience?

Here is the plan language:

"KEY FOB: Subject to the limitations in this provision, the Plan provides (i) coverage for up to three key fob repairs or replacements, and (ii) a total key fob coverage benefit of $600, which limit applies notwithstanding the cost per repair or per replacement of the key fob for the Covered Vehicle. Key fob coverage is available even if this component is lost or stolen, and this coverage is not subject to the deductible that applies to repair visits for covered components.
NOTE: FAILURE OF A KEY FOB BATTERY DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A MECHANICAL FAILURE OF THE KEY FOB."

Did you lose the FOB, or did it become defective? If so can't you just take the key from the old one? You get 2 with the car. How hard can it be to get it duplicated?

One of the first things i did shortly after buying my then new shiny WK2 was to lose one of the fobs.
Got another one at the $tealership no problem.
BUT the key was an extra cost.
Why is that?
Only thing i can think of is because they have to cut a blank key to work the specific lock tumblers?

Key Fob replacement under Mopar Maximum Care Plan ... just the Fob and No Key? Huh???

The specific question was under the Mopar Maximum Care Plan, does the Fob replacement include just the Fob part or is "Fob" supposed to include the entire Fob with the actual key?

As everyone knows, the Fobs are ridiculously expensive especially via the dealership. Hence, having bought the Mopar Maximum Care Plan years ago, what exactly is included under its Fob replacement provision. Seems to me a Fob replacement should include the ENTIRE Fob (including the Fob key) that it is in fact replacing. Anyone with experience or knowledge on this???

I'd think so too.
Thats how they came from the factory and thats how they should be replaced.
In my case i mentioned earlier i did not have MaxCare at the time so it was all out of pocket.

Here's all that my MaxCare terms have to say about key fobs in the Covered clause.
Nothing about the emergency key.
And no mention of keys that i could find in the Not Covered clause.

But note the words 'Subject to the limitations in this provision'.
What exactly is this provision? That vague legalize can mean anything they want it to mean.
Also interesting, the deduction does not apply to a fob replacement.

So one dealership just gives the fob (without the key) and another dealership gives the fob with the key (and cut the key too). Go figure.

We sure have come a long way from being able to walk into most any hardware store, and get a key cut for most any vehicle for around a buck 50. And it really doesn't matter how much more "secure" these new FOB's are, because now they'll just lay in wait and carjack you.

All the FOB's have done is make car theft much more dangerous, by making it more confrontational...... And profitable for the dealer.
