So, today, we went to Costco and after loading a bunch of stuff, I shut the door and pushed the button (driver side door). I heard the "honk" and wife, myself and kid on my shoulders walked across to Best Buy. An hour later, I come back and try to remote start the Jeep. No luck. I come closer and look at the dash, it says "Remote Start aborted. Door Ajar". I thought maybe wife did not close the door properly and look at the rear passenger side door... IT WAS WIDE OPEN! Wife forgot to shut the door after loading the stuff we bought at Costco. Luckily, no one did not steal the 36 rolls of toilet paper from the rear seat and my dog did not take this opportunity to run away.

On all my earlier cars, the "honk" on lock will only sound when all doors are closed and locked. My Boxster honks the horn with a short "beep" if anything is not closed and I lock the door. Same with the Cayenne, I can press the lock button on the fob, but the "honk" only happens after all doors are shut!

Can something be done to make the "honk" sound ONLY after all doors are shut? :( I am glad we did not anything valuable in the Jeep while we were away today, otherwise, it could have been worse.

As a caution, from now on, I will be double checking all doors even after I hit that lock button.

Cheers,
-A

I set mine so the lights flash on remote lock and unlock (honking disabled for remote lock and unlock). The honking thing is annoying to others so I always turn that off. Then, if there is an issue, the honk alerts you to any issue.

True, I disable the "honk" when I go camping and such. But, still, I think it should not honk when all doors are not closed.

Wife felt really bad for not closing the door... and i am really glad someone did not break into our Jeep and steal stuff or worse, damage the interiors.

Cheers,

I hate the honk noise. I disabled mine through EVIC. The lights still flash though. A quick visual verifies the doors are closed and locked.
I find that honk extremely annoying. I disabled it before I drove off the lot. Ever spend the night at a motel where people are constantly honking their damn horn when they come and go during the night? Its like people walking around in a store talking really loud on a cell phone. Its like hey look at me I'm the only one in here that has a phone.

Thats funny, the other day I was at a Costco and was cruising the lot when I saw a beautiful Jeep with its door wide open. As I search the Jeep for goodies all I saw was a dog which just wanted to be petted, 12 gallons of chili and 36 rolls of toilet paper!! I guess the tp was a necessary purchase.

In all seriousness, I agree there should be a warning when the lock doesn't lock. Furthermore, I wish we had some lite sound instead of the horn, it's just too loud esp when I use an apartment complexes carport.

I agree with the members stating the horn should sound when attempting to lock with open doors/gate. But that should be the only time the horn should ever sound when locking or unlocking.

The lock horn sound is out of control. Some people even have a nervous tick; they hit the lock button many times, walk away and hit it again a few more times. I too have lost sleep in hotels/motels due to this. This invention is beyond useless and in the stupid category. There should be legislation against equipping cars with this "feature".

Yes, I have made it obvious that this is a pet peeve of mine. I also need to chill out.

I would love for mine to 'honk' when I lock it, but can't find the setting.

Anyone know how to set it on an export 2012 GC RHD Overland?

I am also facing the same issue. My jeep overland 2014 does not honk when locked. I cannot find this setting in the uconnect to put on/off. I can only find the flash lights option. I wonder if this setting is not available on all cars. Anyone has an idea on how to enable this?

The thing is, its mentioned in the manual but unavailable in the settings.
I dont know if this one of the things that are not available on all cars. Like the auto park/exit option. But I cannot find any reason not to include it as its a simple horn On/Off with the lock. It was available on my previous 2008 Overland.
