This is sort of second hand account of what's going on now. I haven't driven this p.o.s. Jeep in months. Too unreliable.
I have an 05 5.7L hemi V8 and I can't believe I have actually said the words "I hate this Jeep".
Its latest issue is that you can be driving along and it decides it doesn't want to go as fast as it should be anymore. Suddenly it just drives veeerrrryyy slllooowwww and will eventually stall.
The most recent attempt to fix it was replacing main computer (and pretty much everything else electronically). I think the ECM has also been replaced.
If helpful I will get a hold of all that has gone wrong with it & what all has been repaired/replaced. But it's pretty safe to say I have pretty much rebuild it electronically and mechanically.
A while back it used to just stop running all together or would act as if it was in neutral. This was a fun little thing it like to do on the hwy. That hasn't happened in more than a yr. Sorry I forget what the diagnosis & fix was for that.
I need to get this resolved asap. Winter is coming and I need to sell it so I can go back to a WJ. This is my 3rd Jeep (previous ones were WJs & I loved them). This piece of crap is the biggest thorn in my side. I cannot afford this headache another day.

What do you mean exactly with it starts driving slow? Is it maybe that the engine already stalled and for that reason the jeep starts slowing down?
Did you do the parts replacements yourself, or did you bring it to a mechanic?
Is there any fault code set when doing the key dance, this kind of info would help to find out what can be wrong?
A stalling engine could be something very simple as a crank position sensor, fuel supply to more serious things.

Thank you so much for your reply. I am so desperate.
Mechanics got too expensive and as soon as something else fixed another thing went wrong or original problem/code would come back. My husband has been doing the work himself with the help of other firefighters who are also mechanics. (I honestly think it's too advanced for him.)
I will have to ask him if it's already stalled before slowing down.
We have used diagnostic things/code readers. Most of the time they aren't able to read anything.
I'm pretty sure I know what the "key dance" is, but if you wouldn't mind telling me how to do it I'd appreciate it.
I want to say the crank position sensor has been among the million replacements. And I did mention it possibly being a fuel thing. No word yet on that verdict.
Honestly I think the whole sensors & computer system is what makes the new vehicles suck so much. I think we get a ton of false diagnostics because it'll say 1 sensor is the problem when it's actually another that is kind of relevant. And there was actually nothing wrong with the one that had been replaced (this would happen when mechanics/dealerships did the work).
Just by memory it has a new accelorator, starter, battery (none of which were nec), new PCM and crankshaft sensor I think...
As soon as I get the whole list of symptoms, repairs, codes, messages, etc. I will post.

Thank you again. I'm losing my mind. We are so broke. And a lot of it because of this thing. I have to get it resolved so I can get the most money from it for my next WJ. That'll last me the rest of my life. No more newer Jeeps for me.

What sort of mileage? Have any non-electrical parts been replaced? From what I have seen/heard mainboard failures on the Jeep are pretty rare. I would much more likely start with checking the simple parts that are known to wear out than entire boards.



Some things that could cause your concern:

EGR Valve
Wires (2005 have coil packs AND wires)
Crank and Cam Position sensors (I know you said one of these may have been replaced)
Transmission fluid level and quality of the filters (return and main)
Throttle body (inspect and clean/replace if necessary)

These are all cheap and easy fixes that many perform as routine maintenance at certain mileage, and may not throw a DTC to point the repair shop in the right direction (though many would).

Could be a whole lot of other things that aren't as common (and maybe some common ones that I've forgot...if so, I am sure others will chime in).

The key dance works like this: ignition switch off/run three times and leave in run at the third time. The odometer will show DONE, or a fault code(s).
Without fault code it becomes difficult to diagnose. You said that they used a scanner to read the faults, but didn´t read anything. there where no codes, or the scanner couldn´t make a connection with the PCM?
Was the fuel pump pressure checked?

New battery. Thanks for the input tho.
If this battery loses voltage tho I may disconnect the dvd player. I've since learned that Jeep's installed dvd isn't quite right for it and drains its battery. Not sure if they remedied it later in other models.
