Many Thanks to nicon858 for the pics at the beginning of this thread.

Finally got round to doing mine last couple of days. (only took 6 months !!)

I didn't remove the Selector knob unit from the panel. I was able to lift the whole top up enough and I used a small Kingchrome Ratchet driver with a #2 Philips bit to get to the 4 screws under the cover, very easy to do.
It actually was really handy to do the side screws that hold the bin in too.

I too didn't bother hooking up the bin light, I actually have a USB adaptor with a blue light built in it that throws a bit of light.

I also tidied up the power & camera wires for my Blackview and can now close the flap down!

Here's a couple of Pics.

Oh did I say I love the extra room

I pulled out the CD player and installed the new bin last night. Wow, the storage space now is huge! So much better than before.

Couldn't figure out where to place the switch for the LED, but since there wasn't a power hookup either, I just stashed the connector/switch where they hopefully won't rattle.

is the new bin the same depth ?
I'm pretty sure the new bin is significantly deeper than the old one. A lot more forward and aft space as well, in addition to being wider.

Did the part number for this change to 68212885AA? Looks like this now applies to the JGC. I have a '14 JGC SRT and plan on doing this soon.
No, this part is for the one that has the cd player insert as I just found out after mistakenly ordering it :(

Will have to get the Durango one now.

Thanks for the write up on how to remove the CD player. One question though.

I think I read somewhere else that removing the CD player may cause the outlets for the rear seats not operate. Is this true?

Thanks for your input

Just finished the upgrade and mine work fine.

Took me 3 hrs, I had trouble getting the side panels to line back up correctly and show as a tight fit, the dissasembly was easier thanks to this thread.

Kudos to the OP!

I fitted the switch as shown and spliced into the 12v bin outlet and ran a cable pair underneath the bin centreline and back up to the switch. Chopped the plug off the switch assembly and fitted bullet connectors to hook up to the aforementioned cable, should I ever need to disconnect and remove.

And now to the LED, disappointing how un-bright it is unless thats due to the inline resistor that allows it to run of 12v. The metal strip on the switch does not contact the drivers side arm of the bin lid correctly (or at all) and I had to experiment with bending the end of the strip upwards and towards the rear (45 deg angle roughly) to place it in the path of the arm. I tried half dozen positions until I got one that worked every time, I found that fitting the final rear top trim piece over the lid hinge can change the end result.

I am not really happy with the switch as it is very flimsy and I struggle to see a mod that will both harden it for prolonged use and also maintain 100% functionality of its intended purpose. A better solution may be to pick up a 12v line that is only energised when the vehicle has the key in proximity (or failing that engine running).

The bin itself is great, not the biggest centre console bin, but none the less a massive improvement on the absurd CD player assembly. I was worried whilst waiting for the part to arrive as the supplier I got it from in the US lists it is being for a Durango, but all good in the end.

Great report, thanks. Looks like we need to source an alternative switch and light.
Maybe Jaycar can assist.

Am I nuts???? help me out
Being a bit old school I was disappointed that my GC didn't come with CD - it was supposed to be fitted at a later date but was told the wiring wasn't installed so was given an IPOD instead.
I love the SD card but still pondering the CD player....are they that bad?

CD is fine if that's what you want.
It's the room it consumes in the bin space that's made most of us swap ours out.

Hi just read your post on replacing the CD player, great info thanks. Question does the bin have the small storage tray the is directly under the lid on the 2013 models? Also how long did the job take?
Pretty sure the small tray under the lid is part of the armrest. There are a few armrest lids on ebay that include the tray.

Finally! received and installed the replacement bin.

HUGE thanks for the instructions, took about 1 hour and holy cow is there more room. I would say its about 4 times the amount of room.
As far as the light, i opted out based on the comments.
