Hello All,

I'm so excited to be a new member of Jeep Garage. I'll first introduce myself so you know I'm a newbie that has a lot of questions. First, I'm a 23 year old female. Most importantly, I just bought a 2012 Rescue Green Jeep Compass 4x4 Latitude. Now if I could get some questions answered

My Jeep is coming up on 3000 miles and my father keeps getting on my case about getting an oil change already! After reading the owner's manual I was trying to figure out if my compass is on synthetic or conventional oil. And I see it says oil change every 8000 miles. What is API Certified SAE 5w-20 motor oil? Is it synthetic? What are suggestions of an appropriate oil change?

My next question is about adding some features I didn't look into at the time of purchase that I'm interested in adding. Would I be able to get a sunroof put in? and would I be able to get the upgraded speaker system (Boston Acoustics) with the pull down lift gate speakers?

I appreciate any help from anyone that gives this thread a look over. I'm slowly learning all the things about my car and have great interest in learning and knowing more. Thank you!

Welcome to the family!

You can use either synthetic or conventional... whichever is your preference. I used conventional in my Patriot. I also changed the oil every 5,000 miles, not 3,000. With the newer engines, there's no need to get it changed so often. My 2013 WK2's owner manuals said the oil should be replaced at least every 10,000 miles. However, it sounds like your vehicle is/was low-mileage. If it's been sitting for more than 6 months and barely driven in that time period, it certainly wouldn't hurt to get an oil change at your next convenience.

In terms of adding the sunroof, sure it can be done, but is it going to be financially feasible for you to do so? You're talking about a lot of $$ and then there is the increased risk of water leaks with aftermarket sun roofs. I probably would not pursue that mod. That's going to be a ton of work. The Boston audio upgrade is a little more feasible, but the labor hours and parts for the inside tailgate will be a small money monster.

I love the rescue green color, by the way! It's always a head-turner when I see one. Too bad they discontinued that color on new vehicles.
