Decisions, decisions. My WJ has now 186.000 Km on the clock and has not been a trouble free vehicle, though i still love it ( its a kind of love/hate relation):rolleyes:. But with the high milage i probably can expect more problems in the ( near?) future. Its not a daily driver anymore, but more for the fun trips on days off. I was looking into a 2008 WK as a replacement. What do you guys suggest to do, stick with the WJ, or better get a low milage WK?

LOL , All Jeeps are a Love/hate relationship , I dont think I have owned one I have hated at some point . It's part of owning a jeep

I would say if you are worried then go with the newer one.

i think the deciding factor would be. Are you willing to learn as much as you know now on the wj, on a new vehicle so that you can continue to be as helpful on here as you always are :)

My Jeep has 130k miles (just hit that on the way home from work today) and has also been FAR FAR from trouble free (hence why JEEP = Just Empty Every Pocket). It is also the same love/hate relationship. I have no plans to sell it (I actually plan to drive it into the ground and hopefully to 400k+ miles), but I don't have plans on buying another Jeep in the future. Yet when I posted about the issues on this forum everyone's response was that it's "standard" for a vehicle that's 10 years old. I can tell you from owning several vehicle of the same age/mileage, it's not standard to have these issues. I have to ask, why are you going with another Jeep? Why not go with another brand that will have less issues?

But if I was in your position, I would keep driving the WJ. I don't view 186k km (~115k miles) as being very high mileage. I believe every vehicle 2000 or newer should hit 150k miles without issues.

I didnt realize The miles were in kilomiles .... I would hold on to it . You may have a whole lot of life left. We just hit 130 ,ooo miles on our commander with the 4.7 and yes , She has her quarks but still runs great

Mine's at 133,000 and the only issues I've had have been normal wear out. I'm stickin with it as long as I can, I love it!

Since you already know what you've replaced and already fixed on your current WJ, and you don't know what you would be getting into with a newer Jeep, whatever the model, I say keep it.
I had an XJ for 12 years, I bought it when it was 8 years old, so it was 20 years old when I got rid of it with about 175,000 miles. The main reason I did was rust and I wouldn't let my wife drive it because it didn't have air bags. Then she used the same logic on me and I went shopping for a newer one.

So I've just bought an 02 Grand Limited and to be honest I am starting to s**t myself as I read a lot of posts with people saying how many problems they have. I already have the usual broken earth wire in the drivers door. These minor problems I'm not so worried about, but it's the more major problems I'm not looking forward to.

So can you guys tell me honestly how much trouble I may or may not have gotten myself into. And what I should be looking out for? It currently has about 140 000 klm's on the clock and is in emaculate condition.

With the normal maintenance done in time, it should be a reliable vehicle. I had some major things, but not common issues. It needed a tranny rebuild after 150.000 Km and engine valve stem seals replaced due to burning oil. Did both myself, but is quite time consuming.
If your jeep is working fine now, i would not bother too much about the stories from others. There where many many WJ jeeps build and unfortunately you only hear about the bad things that happened to others, but seldomly you hear the satisfied jeep owners.
I would just change out all fluids to start with a clean sheet and do an engine tune up and thats it.

Like Frango said, just keep going and keep up the maintenance. I've had many issues with my Jeep, but none have been what I would consider major problems. For my Jeep, it's just the minor problems that keep aggravating the shit out of me. At 125k miles it's needed new radiator, new steering gear box, new bearings on all 4 wheels, new crank position sensor, new valve cover gasket, and now something in the rear diff is leaking (I think it's the pinion seal but I haven't looked real close).

None of those are major (might consider CPS, but just because it left me stranded), but it sucks to me when my vehicle won't make it more than 12k miles w/out something breaking. The good thing is that parts for each of those issues are under $150. So doing it myself takes a little money and a good chunk of time.

Thanks for the input guys. So with the maintenance up keep I guess I will just service as per the owners manual. Also I was thinking of maybe purchasing some spare parts like the crank angel sensor just incase. Any other parts I should add to my shopping list whilst I'm at it? I do have the busted blend door problem aswell. I have ordered the aftermarket kit with the aluminium blend doors which I will install once arrived from the US. Seems to be a fairly straight forward fix. I will say the car is very nice to drive and the 4.7 has s**t loads of power I just hope I get a good run with it. I will be keeping the trusty old SWB Jackaroo as back up.
