Me, again. The oil drain plug and gasket- are they one or two items, and should they be replaced at each or any oil change? I am a do it yourselfer- that way I know exactly what and when is in the crankcase- and the directions say to examine and replace these items if needed. My past experience with imports (BMW, Honda, Lexus, Nissan, as nauseum) all show a crushable drain plug gasket that should be replaced at each drain. Does same apply to my WK2 with 13100 miles- the oil was changed and lights rset by dealer a week ago, but I am also a belt and suspenders man- I want to put in Mobil 1 just to be sure, but do not want to mess up something that is not currently messed up, if you know what I mean. Oh, and there is more. What dimension is the drain plug, and do I have to remove any splash shields, ala Nissan, Lexus, et al? I am not lazy, just arthritis and repaired knees (too many years coaching Track and Field, Cross Country, weight lifting make crawling around on concrete on my back, well, less than rewarding- but I refuse to give in) and any knowledge gained sitting at my computer bugging the forum members is helpful- as opposed to crawling under the Jeep. Thanks for your collective patience while I undergo my learning curve.

Looks like the gasket and plug are one part............
Engine Oil Pan, Engine Oil Level Indicator & Related Parts 3.6L [ERB] - PLUG, Oil Drain - 06506214AA | Mopar

Lot more info here............http://www.jeepgarage.org/f156/oil-change-diy-3-6l-step-by-step-36719.html

1. No oil filter cap wrench needed as it's above the engine. You need to use a 24 mm socket wrench.
2. There is an access hole in the skid plate to get to the oil plug. No skid plate removal necessary.
3. 13 mm socket to remove oil plug

Thank myou veryn much, once again. Just bfinished installing the pedal covers, and yes, the brake is a son of a gun, but a few choice words, patience, and a knee cushion made it possible. Again, thank you!!!:)

The gasket on the oil plug should last for years. Also Mobil 1 is not the recommended oil, it's Pennzoil 0w-40
