Anyone else have this problem. I get my oil change as needed and after about 2500 miles I notice some spots of oil on the garage floor. Is it possible that it loosens up from driving. It only does this after about 2500 miles. I'm afraid to tighten it any more and cause thread issues. Any thoughts?

I thought I was immune... Then after sitting at the airport for a week (outside) and the temps went down about 30 degrees I had the dreaded spots
Crawled under (hard to do with the lower springs) and yep old around the filter... All oiled up... Needs a good cleaning...
There is a "cone underneath" where the filter goes must be to channel the stuff after they remove it... I tried to tighten the filter and it seemed damn tight...
Been 3 weeks and it only leaks a few minutes after running so have not noticed any drop in levels... Going to the dealer tomorrow for the 2nd change and they better sort it out

Welcome to the club. Mine did the same thing after 3,000 miles on my second oil change. Dealer said the filter split open but I didn't get to actually see it they had already thrown it away. They switched to a different oil filter though -- the white filter with SRT on the side.

Yep looks identical... I have the black one right now (on my second oil change)... so either the dealer used what they had on the shelf... or clueless (maybe both). Will be asking for the white one - or maybe finding a K&N at a shop in the morning...

This has happened my last 2 changes as well. just had my oil done last week and there was so much oil all over the bottom of the vehicle they thoroughly cleaned it and looked all over for leaks. A note was even made in the service record to keep an eye on it and if it returns to use some oil dye to see if there is a leak somewhere other than the filter.
Seems to me Jeep has another issue they need to look into and provide a service note on. Even if it is just a note to use a specific type filter.

Thanks guys. I guess I'm not alone. I did go to the dealer today and I mentioned it to them. The tech told me that where it seals needs to be cleaned really good or it might not seal properly. Not sure that really means anything but hopefully it works. They told me if it starts to leak again to bring it back. I'll just have to wait and see.
Assuming the oil is coming from the filter, I think I'd beat the holy living snot out of the oil monkey who put the filter on incorrectly or dinged a sealing o-ring.
I'd check the local yellow pages for more oil change places, or if this is a dealer, have a chat with the service manager. Polite to begin...

I have the same problem. It's not leaking very much - a couple of drops a week & no noticable change in dipstick level. My dealer checked it out, and sure enough it appears to be leaking at the oil filter seal. The oil filter and drain plug were checked and found to be tight. The last oil change was 3 months ago and the leak only showed up a couple of weeks ago. I'm wondering if the cooler temperatures have something to do with it.
Update...
Went to the (steal)dealer today... They said
1) yep it was leaking at the seal (really I am shocked... ).. The drops on your floor after I parked was my imagination...
2) it was slight loose (hmmm does that mean you over tightened it this time....)... Could have been normal wear and temp change...
3) we don't put on the white srt filter Chrysler only recommends the black one ( fine next time I will bring in my own k&n)
4) we don't see any other srts with this problem "really how many '14 srts do you see...? "Well your is the only one... But a 13 comes in here every so often... But you have some mods so we can't be sure it was you... (Right... The catch can and the injen made the oil filter leak)
5) if you notice it bring it right in and we will tighten it up... (Right because that is convenient)
Needless to say was not complete satisfied...
They did the HVAC remote start TSB and the one that just came out yesterday on the electronics... Said it took 2 hours to run the update and had to ground something that wasn't right.... Recall # n58 I think.
The service manager means well... But they really have no clue when it comes to special models.... But he said we all love your ride and we made sure we updated everything... I started to worry if they messed with uconnect....
Then I got in and took off all was well till I went to turn off the heated wheel... And the mirror dimmer was not showing up in the controls... Checked ...and they down graded me to 13.19. (Oh great) So this evening I had to reload 13.58.
Oh and this is the 3rd time they forgot to reset the oil life monitor....

Chrysler has had a problem for years with the oil filter mounting boss not sealing correctly unless the oil filter is tightened to just about where the threads start smoking. Why do you think the oil filter that is installed at the engine factory when the engine is assembled is always on so extremely tight. They must use a 4 foot breaker bar to tighten it. I've had this problem on my 2000 WJ w/4.7, 2005 Magnum RT w/5.7, 2012 WK2 w/5.7 and my current 2014 Summit w/5.7. So nothing new there.
I always dread every time I have to do an O&F change on late model Chrysler V8's. Because the oil filter always has seepage at the filter gasket until I really crank the oil filter on tightly. I've never, repeat never had this problem on any other make of vehicle in over 40 years that I've been servicing vehicles.

Can you hurt anything by tightening the oil filter too tight? If mine starts leaking again should I just try to tighten it down real right and see if it quits? How tight are we talking about?

Add me to the list! 2012 GC SRT8 with an oil leak around the oil filter. Took it in last night to the dealership and they stated there is a known issue with the threaded "pipe" the filter screws onto. It can work itself loose after going through hot and cold cycles. There is supposedly a new hardened replacement piece that is slightly longer (again, info from the dealership). They didn't have the new piece last night, but they removed mined and re-seated it with loctite. Also, they added dye to the oil to see any possible other areas. So, now we drive and see if any more puddles show up on the garage floor! :thumbsup:

I am not lucky enough to have a 6.4L, but I have 100K miles on my '07 5.7 and have done all but two of the oil changes myself. I've never had even the slightest drip.
I *have* had the filter gasket stick to the mating face several times; my Dad taught me to ALWAYS make eye contact with the filter mount before installing a new filter.. that has turned out to be good advice..

I had the same issue. After three time I brought it to another dealership. Turns out the engine oil cooler was the problem, not the filter. The seal that attached from the engine oil cooler to the engine was bad. Have your shop check that. There have been several other reports of this same issue.
