i have a 99 Jeep G.C. Limited 4.7L and i believe it has the 45RFE tranny. i am getting the great P0700 code. i just replace both input and output speed sensors on the driver side of the tranny. they are very easy to replace. took unit for a test drive and the check engine light went out after two miles. after 2 more miles the light came back on i was getting this symptom once it came on. once the light comes on i loose all power while driving. i pull the Jeep to the side of the road and it sounds like it is running on 1-2 cylinders. i turn it off and restart it and it is running fine but the check engine light is on. it seams like if i travel 5-10 more miles then it will act up again. any thoughts on what this could be. the tranny fluid is at proper level and is not burnt at all. Please advise if anyone has any suggestions.

The P0700 code only tells that the transmission control module has set a fault code. Now you need to scan the TCM to see what fault code it has set, the key dance will not show that. How does the transmission shift?
Loosing power and the rough idle seems to be more engine related. A TPS sensor for example, eventhough you would expect a fault code for that one. I would first do the TCM scan and depending on that decide what to change.
Did you do the keydance after it lost power, or before? Do it once more to see if anything changed.

Thanks for the response. i have noticed no bad shifting issues. when it is going between gears everything seams smooth. for instance when it acted up the other day i was going around 40-50mph thats when in felt like all power was lost and all of a sudden the check engine light came on and if i put my foot on the accelerator nothing happens and like i said i pulled off the road and the engine is sputtering like it is running on 1-2 cylinders. when i do the key dance on it i also get a P0320 for the crankshaft position sensor but that was just changed a couple of months ago. i never hooked a OB2 up to it to clear that code so i was thinking that it was just an old code that has stayed in the memory. By TPS do you mean throttle position sensor? do you know if a Jeep dealer is the only place that can get the tranny fault codes or can some local garages that might have a high quality Snap On scanner be able to read the codes from the TCM?

Many shops will have an adequate scanner to check for TCM fault codes, just ask around. I hear that there are places where they do it for free.
And yes, TPS= throttle position sensor.
You can disconnect the battery for some minutes to clear the PCM memory and then drive it until the problem returns and then get it scanned.
When you changed the crank sensor some months ago, what where the symptoms (besides the fault code)?
