My 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is at the dealership for the fourth time in a year trying to correct the same problem. The paint on the lip of the hood started bubbling up with the aluminum corrosion about a year ago, had it repainted by dealerships third party auto body shop. They messed up the paint and had to redo it not once but twice and now the paint bubbling came back again around the same spot. Went to dealership two months ago and told me they would get me a new hood. Gave me an appointment and my car is sitting there for a week with nothing dine and no new hood. I opened a case with FCA the last time I had to bring it back and just reopened a new case. Dealing with the same case manager, she is actually on top of things and is very proficient. Love to see how this works out. I can see it now, get a new hood and the same body shop screws it up again. Not happy about the entire ordeal. My dealership service manager is a snake and BS artist.

Sorry you're going through this. Hopefully it will all work out this time around. I had a 2017 lease that just ended and never had this issue. Was this issue fixed with the 2019's, which I currently have?

Why leave the car given you can drive it until the part arrives?
Because they give you an appointment for the loaner to make sure it's available first. This dealership is ass backwards on everything they do. My Jeep is currently at the body shop as the hood came in this morning. Probably will take another two to three days to get it back. I will say that the case manager has been on top of it and has been calling me and emailing me with updates.

It's not all the Grand Cherokees but quite a few of them. The only true fix is to replace the hood. Painting it a million times won't help, it will keep coming back. Now that they are no longer trying to repair the hood but instead replacing with a new one it should be good. Fingers crossed.

So I'm wondering now what is different about the new hood you are getting? It's still aluminum isn't it? Wouldn't it eventually rust again?

There is a TSB on this the dealers should be following for the repair. See the latest

They tried to do the so called recommended repair last fall which obviously failed. I'm glad their is a revised TSB about it. They will always try are repair it prior to replacing it and if not prepped correctly the corrosion will return making the process just that much longer and more of a headache. Thanks for the info.

Well hopefully they will be more careful at the factory as to not cross contaminate the metal and add some type of anti corrosion additive to the primer or something of that nature.

Update, got my jeep back from the dealership yesterday. They installed a brand new hood from the factory. It came out good, only took two weeks to get it back, lol. Hopefully this saga is finally over.

Do you notice anything different about the new hood? Ground strap?

The hood is exactly like the previous one. No difference at all. Came with everything its supposed to. Just saw this massage today. Everything is still good. No problems with the new hood 3 months later.
