When you tape off an edge, do you have to use an Exacto type blade to trim the tape away from the plasti-dipped parts or can you just pull the tape off without taking the rest of the sprayed area with it? I have the 18" rims and there is a detail in them that I want to leave exposed metal. I'm planning to mask them off when I plasti-dip the rest of the rims or I'll have to go back and cut them out if I don't mask them off. Hope that makes sense.

Ram4whldr, yes we are talking about the aerosol product. "Rubber" in a spray can. :)
What is the brand name of the "Rubber" plasti-dip that you are referring to. I have no idea what it is.

When Plasti-Dipping your window trim, you need to lift the tape when your last coat is still wet (this would be on the "window side" of the chrome trim). Don't mess with an Exacto knife around your paint.

Go to YouTube: Tesla Model S Black Out Window Trim with Plasti Dip - YouTube for a demo of the method with a Tesla S.

Right on. That is really helpful and I must have missed this newer video they made about doing the trim.

I may have another go at it this weekend.

Thanks for the advice!

No problem pinetar. The only issue I have with the Plasti-Dipped trim is people touch that area of the Jeep quite often (grapping the upper part of the door when opening and closing, hands hitting the bottom window trim when the windows are down, etc). It just doesn't hold up the way other parts of the truck do after being Plasti-Dipped.

I am considering upgrading to 3M vinyl wrap for the trim and the grille . . .

adthebadstud- How your calipers holding out? Has the heat curled the plasti dip?
Hi peejym, unfortunately I ended up having the Jeep bought back by Chrysler after I got tired of bringing it in to the dealership for transmission and electrical problems.. When I turned it in, the calipers were holding up great though! That was in mid November. I do miss the Jeep all the time, but then I think about the 20 something days I was in a rental and I am glad I'm out of it.

Overall, I'd say the dip was working great!

Happened to be on the site now just farting around and saw your reply. Ended up leasing a 2013 Infiniti G37x the AWD one. With both premium and tech packages. Just a two year lease got it about $1000 under invoice and really low money factor.

Nothing down except first month. $405/month. :)

When you Plasti-Dip the wheels... Do you have to take the tire off of the rim to do this?

Secondly, when doing all of the trim on the vehicle, do you take the parts off of the jeep, or use a lot of masking tape and do it right on the vehicle?

Im new to this, and dont want to screw up my expensive ride by "playing around".
