NBC News 10/01/2013

Chrysler is recalling more than 142,000 pickup trucks and SUVs worldwide because of software glitches that could affect instrument cluster lighting and braking systems.

Around 132,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs and 10,800 Ram pickup trucks from the 2014 model year are affected.

Chrysler said the Jeep's warning lights may randomly illuminate and its instrument cluster may black out. Since the same electronic module controls anti-lock braking and electronic stability control, those systems may also be affected.

I wonder if this includes the "Christmas tree" dash issue for which they were changing abs modules? ---
Somebody had asked the dealer when they got the Christmas tree dash if their abs and airbags would work and the dealer said uhh probably. I bet they won't, hence the recall. At least I can hopefully get all the flash updates done along with this.

I posted this August 6

"Re: 2014 Jeep Overland- Dash lit up like a christmas tree, speedometer not working

Mine threw many codes, but the dash lights all went out after a few restarts. Jeep decided that the only thing that could cause so many errors and still have the car run would be a bad PCM. They changed it about 2500 miles ago and so far so good.

It could happen again at any time because they did just guess and not diagnose. But, I continued to drive the car while waiting for the part and everything was working.

Someday they will find the glitch is some program that can trigger this at any time and realize there was nothing wrong with all the parts they changed.

If they can guess, so can I."

What's the status on deploying this? Is there a TSB for it? I'm curious what Build dates it effects. Do you just have to wait for call?

Should be next month. And yes, letters will be sent to all vehicle owners covered by the recall.

I have one recall letter for the DRLs and figure I'll collect some and then let the dealer make a day of it.

That's what I am going to do if mine is effected. Mines a June build. I want them to apply every TSB that is effected along with the recall.

Good luck trying to get them to apply every TSB. They only do it if THEY can verify the problem.
That's baloney. They updated my transmission without driving it or anything.

And I'm sure tons of folks won't be driving in with xmas tree or broken speedometers when they get the recall update.

There might be a few as needed TSB's. But there is software out there they know is bad and should be updated before it cost the customer or Chrysler more later.
