Nothing was wrong with the factory radio, in fact in 2012 it was pretty nice. Decided to change it out with something that has more functionality. After reading posts and doing research on Crutchfield, went with a factory re-furbished JVC KW-M750BT. Bought the idatalink maestro and wire harness to keep the steering wheel controls.

It's been years since I changed out a head unit, the last time was in the late 90's. Today's hiccup was that the factory refurbished radio from crutchfield didn't include the m5 screws to attach the dash mounting adapter. Luckily the local hardware store had plenty. Also, decided to not re-use the uconnect and see how carplay and android auto work with the steering wheel controls.

Attaching some pictures. If you see something I did incorrectly or have any questions, let me know.
