I would appreciate any feedback on purchasing a 2011 GC. Most that I'm looking at have approx. 40,000 - 50,000 miles on them. Is there any major maintenance work needed as you approach 100,000?

Not sure if timing belts or tranny work need to be performed? I'm just weighing all the costs if I buy a used GC. Thanks in advance. 2011's are going for approx. $30,000CDN versus $40,000 for a new Laredo.

Thank you Sir!

Kilo,

If you can wait until tomorrow I will grab the real maintenance info on both the 6 and the 8. I will also talk to an amazing Drivability guy and get his opinion. First thing he will tell me which he always does is he hates Jeep owners. Can't blame the dude for being honest!

But please everyone chime in the more opinions the better !!!!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not worried about tires and normal wear and tear items. I was just curious about things such as timing belts or any major servicing of the 4WD components as you approach 100,000 and over.

I've had a bad experience with Volvo's and the Haldex all wheel drive components that had bad leaking seals and gaskets, bevelled gear issues etc.

I have a 2011 Limited V6 with 20,000 miles that was bought new in Feb, 2011. I have had "zero" trouble with it. Only thing I didn't like was the Michlen tires it came with. They have very poor traction in snow. But if you buy one with 30,000 to 40,000 miles, the tires most likely will have been replaced. I just traded for a 14 Overland but sometimes I think maybe I should have waited a year and put new tires on my 11. But we usually trade every 3 years. I suspect the dealer will ask well over $30,000 for mine, but it will have 6 months warranty left. Al

Thank you so much Willx. I really appreciate the feedback and the reference material. Good to know the Pentastar has a timing chain versus belt. I can totally understand regular maintenance and it's good that there aren't any glaring issues with the driveline or 4X4 systems.

OK here is what I got the run down on. First off as I just noted in another thread, the techs I have spoken to have said there has been very little concerns at all on the Jeep GC from 2011 forward and that the Pentastars have been free from problems in the Jeep where they have had issues with the heads (back side) on the Van.

There has been an ongoing issue with a slight hesitation on the highway with regualr fuel in the Hemi but this is a known problem that affects a bunch of vehicles and apparently there will be an update to this in August. Other little problem is a snap, click, thud type thing coming from the rear of the vehicle with anything that has the load leveling rear shocks. There is a TSB on this but it would need to be done under warranty so if you can find one that still has some warranty both of these items if not fixed can be dealt with. Neither seems to have much long term impact (My Durango has both problems lol) Don't let me worry you here I gaurantee you I can come up with an arms length list of known issues on most vehicles and these two are no show stopper like head gaskets or rear main seals.

On the scheduled poop, there is very little that the techs tell me actually needs to be done. Change the oil sooner than the monitor tells you to or run synthetic is one comment (which I do). The only major deal is that he said the timing chains need to likely be done at some point. This is a bigger deal on the V6. I dont see it in the schedule though which means that technically it is not a scheduled repair. The V8 up to 2012 requires Spark Plugs every 36M/52K (no biggy). The 2013/2014 Schedule is WAY easier to read so just look at that and I think the only difference is the spark plugs. Maybe ask around and see if ANYONE has needed to do Chains on these??

Schedule attached.

I looked at the schedule and it all seems like regular maintenence until just over 100,000K when you replace the normal fluids. As you mentioned, nothing on the timing chain. I know some manufacturers went to the chain instead of belt for longevity. Thanks again.
