Have about 3 inches of road tar on the headlight lens of a 2012 GC. Is it okay to use tar & bug remover from one of major wax manufacturers (i.e. Turtle Wax)?
WD-40 will probably get it off. Or a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (it'll take anything off). It's a mild abrasive so be careful, but the chemicals in it will get it off quick!
WD-40 would work, but you need to be careful not to use too much.
Any mild abrasive would be a bad idea unless you plan to re-polish the lens with a polishing kit afterwards.
Bug and tar remover might also do the trick as will some paste waxes.
You might want to ask your dealer [presuming you have good terms with their service department] for a detailer recommendation to avoid messing up an expensive lens.
WD- 40 will take that off. I know from experience.
You may want to spray or apply the WD & let it stand for about five minutes. This will have a "melting" affect on the tar, then should wipe right off.
