I just washed my 2012 GC Overland by hand the other day, and i noticed that it is covered in spackled rust spots(about the size of a pin) . Is this a defect in the paint? It's only 5 months old and has just 10k kms, hopefully this is a warrenty issue. Has anyone else had issue?

Welcome fellow Canadian!

This is normal due to all the salt they put on the roads during the winter. It's not a paint defect. It's just rush specs. They can be removed with a clay bar kit or cleaner wax. I did my whole Jeep the other day. It's a long process, lots of rubbing, but it's a must after our canadian winters.

google "rail rust"

very common and also very easy to fix. Tiny metal particles got into your clear coat, now they're rusting...not your truck.

like RageofFury said, clay bar will fix it. I just did it on my 5 day old Overland.

My 2011 has rust (not specs) on the inside edges of the driver's door and the hinges. The other doors are clear.

"Rail rust" it is. It is advisable for anyone picking up their new ride to run over your Jeep with a clay bar. I did after picking up my Altitude. OMG to how much crap came off!
