It used to be that the entire sales force had cars and these were the "demos". If you drove it and liked it you ordered a car. At some predetermined time or mileage the demos were sold, as new, but with a discount.
Today, cars are sold off the lot and any one can be considered a demo. If you want a test drive they hand you the keys to any car you point to. If you don't buy it, it's a demo.
I was very happy to have ordered my Jeep which I received with 4 miles on it ... And the previously discussed paint damage. Go figure.
