I received an email from Jeep today saying. I did not realize a 2016 was able to receive over-the-air updates. Has anyone with a '16 received an over-the-air update?

Select “Update Now” when you see the notice in your vehicle.
If you are unable to view this email, please click here.
PLEASE CHOOSE "UPDATE NOW" ON THE TOUCHSCREEN.
Just like your smartphone receives automatic updates, your Uconnect system will now receive over-the-air software updates for fast, easy improvements.

A notification will appear on your Uconnect touchscreen.

Simply choose "Update Now," and your system will upgrade with new features and advancements.
IT’S AS EASY AS 1-2-3:
1. The notification will appear on your touchscreen after the car is in park and the ignition is off.2. Click “Update Now” or “Schedule Update.” The update happens when the ignition is off and takes approximately 10 minutes.3. At the next ignition start, a message will display on your touchscreen confirming update successful.

Well, since 2014's can receive over the air updates, I would think 2016's could as well.

I have had nothing but trouble with this. I scheduled the update 3 different times, and IT WILL NOT UPDATE. So this morning after the 3rd failed attempt, I just hit "UPDATE" and it finally started to download. So I drove around for 15 minutes wasting gas and time while the stupid little bar graph went from 0% to 100%. Then the screen went dark and rebooted.

So now I'm thinking finally it's updated. Then after it reboots what comes up?..... SCHEDULE UPDATE! Through all of this my radio no longer works. The update is in there, but the stupid car won't recognize it. I really wish these idiots would get their act together before they send this crap out over cyberspace.

Now I'm going to have to take the car in to get this fixed. I wish they would just leave well enough alone! And stop trying to improve everything. All they manage to do is screw things up.

So many things can go wrong with an over the air update i'd be leery to update that way.

A better optional way would be to down load an update file from a FCA website and copy the file on a thumb drive then plug it into the Uconnect system. I'd trust that method better than an over the air update.
Maybe thats an option already, don't know offhand as i don't have my owner's manual handy.

Hi billt,
I am sorry to hear about the troubles you have been experiencing. Please reschedule the update for a time when you will not be in the vehicle (overnight or while at work) and ensure the vehicle is locked. If you are no longer able to schedule an update, or if this does not work, please send our team a private message!

I've already attempted to do that 3 times. It won't update. Then this morning while I was driving, it started the update on it's own. I drove until it completed and showed "100%" on the graph. The screen then went dark, and when it rebooted the first thing it displayed was "Schedule Update". Now I can't get rid of that screen because it comes up every time I start the car, or press a touch key for a different screen.

The update is in, but the stupid car won't recognize it. And as I said, now the radio doesn't work no matter what I do. A total PITA!

Hi billt,
Please try the following if the Update screen is still there:
1. Choose 'Schedule Update'
2. Set time 2 minutes ahead of current time (for example, if it is currently 8:43 AM, set the time for 8:45 AM)
3. Once the time is chosen, select 'Set Time'
4. Select 'OK'. Do NOT press the X.
5. Wait for 3 minutes to allow the set time to pass (for example, if the time was set for 8:45 AM, wait until at least 8:48 AM)
6. Perform two button reset (Simultaneously press and hold the circular Browse/Enter & Power/Mute buttons)
7. Wait for 'Schedule Update' pop up to be shown again, but do NOT Set Time
8. Perform a complete sleep cycle (steps below)
Ignition off
open door
close door
lock the door
Wait for 10 minutes
9. Turn the Ignition On, and the pop ups should cease.

If this does not remedy your concern. Please let me know.

Interestingly enough, my 2014 has never had an OTA update. I have been told I would receive one, but it never happened. I don't know if it's because my radio was replaced twice or whether there is some other gremlin in the system.

OK, but a couple of questions. Do I perform steps 1.) through 9.) with the car running? Then shut it off? Also, I'm not sure about step #6. Are you talking about the mute button, and the "Browse / Enter" button on the radio? Thanks in advance.

Hi billt,
Yes, you perform the steps with the car running until step 8 when you are prompted to turn the ignition off. And yes the steps are referring to the buttons on your radio.

OK Alex, I'm going to try this, step by step. I let you know how it goes. I printed out your post so I can follow it to the letter in the car. Thanks again and keep your fingers crossed. Talk to you shortly.

Alex IT WORKED! I got the radio back, and no more, "Schedule Update" popping up. You're a lifesaver, thanks a million! I didn't check my phones. I don't know if I'll have to reconfigure them. So far I haven't had to with any of the other updates. Thanks again.

In all fairness I've had several over the air updates since I bought my 2015 Grand Cherokee, and this was the first one I ever had any issues with. The problem is it's contradicting and confusing right from the get go, on the way they set the thing up. First, it tells you the car has to be parked, locked, with the ignition "OFF" in order for the update to successfully download.

So you select a time when you know you won't be driving the vehicle. The problem is after 3 attempts it would not complete the download. So finally, out of frustration, I just hit, "Schedule Update" while the present time was showing, and I was driving the car.

Then, low and behold, the thing started the download process. I drove around until it showed 100% on the download graph. The screen then went dark and automatically rebooted. So after that I knew the download was successfully in there, or something would have come up to the effect of, "Download Failed", ect. It didn't.

What was happening after the download, was the screen kept popping up, "Schedule Update", and I couldn't get rid of it. I also lost the radio through this whole thing. Alex's "9 Step Process" was successful in restoring everything back to normal. I'll admit you shouldn't have to go through all that to correct a simple U-Connect update. But it was better than taking the thing back to the dealer.

Here my two cents. I have owned 2011 overland summit and 12 overland. I would have weird things going on with both Jeep. Maps would have me in the Atlantic ocean and also the maps would say my jeep was in a town 50 miles from where i really was. All sorts of problems with that. "FWC" i think it was called problems and so on and since i own these for 6 years total. In the Month of April or May, I think April it would get some kind of hit or something and all of a sudden the things that i had problems with would start working again. Sirrus problems also around the tole way loops.and lost signals in the exact same spots. I know this might sound crazy but it did it on Both different Jeeps in April. Up dates and vehicle would be fine again for the next year. Anyone else out there noticed this?? Im in Northern Illinois.
