Will a 265/50r20 fit in the spare tire compartment? If so will the cover completely close? Would prefer to hear from someone who has actually tried this. I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited. I've called 4 dealers and got a different opinion from each one.

No, it will not fit in there "normally". If you remove the inserts, you can get the tire in the space, but it will raise the cover up a bit as the tire is thicker than the normal full size spare. The factory full-size spare is about the same diameter as the fancy tires at the four corners, but isn't as wide.

There was a post, which I can't find, where someone build a slightly raised floor that accepted the the standard cover. It was carpeted, looked great and accepted a real full size spare.

You may have better luck than me finding it, or maybe the person who did it will see this and do a repost.

It is kind of stupid that they redesign the WK2 without realizing that the stock size 20" tires would not fit into the spare tire well. Maybe we can blame the Mercedes designers for it since the WK2 was designed when DaimlerChrysler were still together.

It is likely not at the top of their list of redesign considerations since the factory full-size spare and wheel is undoubtedly substantially less expensive than the 20s that sit at the four corners. It's effectively about the same diameter and only about a inch less wide. Weighs less, too. There's method to their madness, even if some of us would like the space to match the rest in an ideal world.
