Any tips on getting that little plastic rivet that holds it to the frame out and replaced? Doesn't seem like it was made to be removed in one piece.

sounds like a wcm(wireless control module) failure
While this could one of several causes, one the dealer should be looking at. I'm thinking the module the keys plugs into itself, or would be the pushbutton (perhaps called the WIN). On the previous generation, this would cause stalling, and could easily be replaced and the module was fairly cheap. Keys did not need to be re-registered.

Its the same basic key and system as the previous generation, although more added to it for the keyless entry and go feature.

There were problems with the TIPM for serveral years, but correct me if I'm wrong, it was fuel pump relay problems that caused failures to start or stalling at random. NOT a stall right after start, with no other stalling symptoms nor failure to start symptoms. And it was solved with a bypass kit that mounted an external relay to take over for the relay internal to the TIPM.

I have had the recall done for the fuel pump relay. Within 20 minutes of getting the Jeep back it stalled. That was two years ago, it continues to stall on start and even driving in a straight line or turning a corner. I learned to drive like I'm 99 years old at a corner or traffic light, leaving plenty of gap between traffic during a turn and have an exit strategy in case it stalls in traffic.

I've got the restart down to 3 seconds, wave my arm for behind traffic to see, hard brake, throw into park, press the button to get out of run, foot on brake, press button to restart, slam into drive and stand on it

So frustrated with this defect, I've tried all sorts of start up procedures for a start up sequence nothing has worked, still randomly stalls, multiple times a month

HELP anyone!

I've thought about putting on the recalled external relay an led showing 12V power in and an led showing 12V power out to fuel pump. The idea is at a stall if I can go open the hood and see if either side of the relay is not showing power. Anyone know the wiring for the relay?

Thanks, scared in Michigan!

The Safety Recall R09 from July 2015 details all of the procedure to install the external relay. I've read that several people have examined their "repaired" TIPM following the recall procedures and discovered poor workmanship. You may want to do the same with your Jeep.

Have you ever replaced the recall external relay? They are known to go bad. Usually can get a new one for around $9.

Have you gone back to the dealer and asked them to verify the recall is working?

Can it be started in neutral? I know that with a normal key you can put the car in neutral and restart while coasting but I've never tried it with a push button ignition. You'd probably have to put your foot on the brake enough to illuminate the brake lights to override the interlock but that would still be better than a complete stop and putting it in park.

I might try that on a deserted road this weekend to see if it works. I know you have to hold the button for several seconds to shut off the engine while in drive (to prevent accidentally shutting down on the road). That came up with those people claiming runaway vehicles that couldn't be turned off.

I haven't posted in this thread for awhile, but as an update: I was having stalling issues (on startup) as well. I thought it was possibly the fuel relay or something else to do with the whackadoo TIPM recall fix...but it turned out to be a dying alternator, and replacing that fixed it. Some other odd problems I had been having (windshield wipers turning on when I used the turn signal, for example) which I had attributed to the TIPM also ceased after the alternator replacement.

Hope that info can help some people

Interesting, mine has just started stalling after pressing start only a couple of times in the past month or two. And when cold my wipers come on when I but on the turn signal, Bit only when really cold outside. Got 160k on mine

My wife's 2011 WK2 Laredo has had the same stalls after start feature for several years now.

Quick work-around: Pop the start button out, insert the key, then cycle the key on-off, then on. The Jeep starts and behaves. We've traced the problem to a key fob sold to us defective by a certain dealer in Baytown,TX.

Only happens with the Baytown key fob, the wife's fob works fine. A replacement, replacement fob is expensive enough I just pop the start button out and insert the key fob when I use the car.

However....if the car cranks but won't start and won't quit cranking, (been there done that), it's the fuel pump relay, which is under recall.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks for that, I have tried the key from the fob in the key only area by removing the push button. Did not solve my stall on start or stall while driving just using the key, did that method for couple months, did continue with the stalls. I have had the fuel pump relay recall done and even bought another relay to see if that's what is was but, no. Just came back from the store had a stall on start in the parking lot 10 minutes ago

Thanks Capt,

I have had to do that a number of times when it gets funky. It only happens 10% or less of the time so I am not sure and won't really worry about it

Very sad, got a text from a reliable Chrysler factory source, all their going to do is replace the relay again on this second recall, hope that is not true. I've put in two brand new relays to see if that was causing the stall. It did NOT fix the stall

Very sad indeed. Hope this isn’t the fix. That’s 5 minutes and a $20 part. I’ve changed mine twice as well.
