So I have a weird creaking from right rear passenger sunroof/roof area that I have been trying to ignore. There are other threads here where people have taken their TH in for repair multiple times over several weeks and no fix yet definitively and they are without a vehicle. I thought as weather warms sound would improve but it is getting worse!!!! Usually only hear it at low speeds while turning on incline or decline where there is some force on the frame. Does anyone else have this sound, any idea what is causing it? (I am thinking this is more of a TH issue rather than wk2 platform issue because I didnt have this issue with my 2012 SRT). There is also a mention of a TSB but from what I have read no one can figure this out definitively. Take a listen in my video.

Why can’t I add my video?

So, I had a creak sound when performing slow turns and braking at slow speeds. I do not have a sunroof though. Mine turned out to be either a bolt that broke the tack weld during install (not torqued completely) or a suspension brace in the front that was not seated properly. They corrected both and now I have no noise.

Trkhk...seems like this is quickly becoming a known manufacturing defect for the THs. I have had my TH in for repairs 3x and for a total of 22 days. There is 'adhesive missing' from the factory according the tech who eventually worked with FCA on fixing mine. Some bad news though on this:

1. The TSB didn't work (on mine);
2. They are gonna have to completely remove interior trim but they should get FCA engineers involved early or your truck will languish on the dealer lot;
3. When they put it back, it's NOT gonna be the same fit and finish. I already have 2 pieces of trim that are popping off; waiting for dealer to get these parts in to replace these now;
4. The fix has worked for 95% of situations--but the creak is still there for me (although not as loud) over bumps, especially in reverse.

Now the internal repair papers I got my hand on do not note 'missing adhesive from the factory' like my tech said there was...but it does note adhesive applications.

I have escalated my situation within FCA for a replacement TH. Nothing yet. But this creak is not fixable IMO. And for a $100K vehicle, this creak is not permissible. Esp since our SRTs never had.

2019 TH models will have to be manufactured differently so this creak does not happen.

I do suspect (I'm just a layperson but an informed one) that the extra weight across the TH compared to the regular GC and even SRT place additional strain on the frame/trim pieces. So whatever Micky Mouse manufacturing process is used for the other GCs is not adequate for the extra weight of the TH.

And yes, your location of creaking is exactly where mine was and still is.

Thanks for all your thoughts. So far seems like three possible issues all producing similar problems. Really wish I could figure out how to add my video to confirm this is what you all are experiencing. I also can’t seem to open your video as well....

Yes, I am also experiencing the same creaky noise coming from the rear roof right area every time I am going in and out and over an uneven area which creates some sort of flexing causing the creaky sound to appear. I have close to 2000 miles on my TH and this creaky sound is becoming very annoying for a $100K Jeep. I also had a 2012 Jeep GC SRT8 which was solid and never had any sort of annoying creaky sounds. Did FCA make changes to their build process since 2012 since the 2018 TH body style is essentially pretty much the same as the 2012? I am very disappointed indeed and will be taking my TH to the dealer this week to see if there is someway they can fix this. Wish me luck.

Aside from that the TH is pretty amazing thus far in all other areas which far exceeds my expectations.

How loud is this?

Can you hear it over the music if listening at a reasonable volume?

I see it happens at a slow speed - what mph would you guess?

Does it happen on bumps or only inclines / declines?

Has it always been there?

thanks for info here - as I'm seriously considering a TH or SRT. But if this creaking is a known issue, this would sway my decision.

Sorry to hear about the creaking and hope things get figured out.

I have the same creaking noise. I checked the susspension when I swapped springs. It's actually a little less, but still noticeable.

My noise turned out to be 2 things. First, I had a bolt that broke the tack weld during installation and was spinning free, so it was not torqued properly. Second, I had a suspension brace in the front that was not seated properly. Both items were corrected and my Jeep is quiet as a church mouse now. <= I think I just dated myself.

Hello Everyone,

In reference to my previous post noted on the annoying creaking noises coming from the passenger side rear door pillar, I took my TH to my local dealer to check on this issue and discovered that FCA posted a Service Bulletin #23-006-18 - Group: 23-Body February 13, 2018 Subject, Click, Creak or Groaning Sound Near C-Pillar, Dual pane Sunroof with addresses this issue TH owners have been complaining about. I made an appointment with my local FCA dealer to have this issuend fix the problem. I took my TH to my dealer and they completed the necessary repairs to fix this problem. A special Lord Fusor 112B Structural adhesive which my dealer had to order had to be applied to the passenger side rear pillar area to fix this problem. It appears that the factory neglected to apply this adhesive when my TH was being built. With no adhesive applied to this area, the roof and rear pillar area (metal) were rubbing against each other causing the click, Creak or groaning sound near the rear C-pillar area of the TH.

My FCA dealer named Bobby did a fantastic job in successfully completing the necessary repairs to fix this squeaky problem for me. The result, NO MORE SQUEAKY NOISES COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR C- PILLAR. It was a big job that took the FCA mechanic 3 days to successfully complete. Now I am a real happy camper again.

The thing that I can't understand is to the reasons why our TH's are not built RIGHT to begin with at the Jefferson Plant? This Jeep GC bodystyle has been around since 2012 and you would think that the FCA Jefferson plant would have their act together in the building of these Jeeps? Afterall this is suppose to be a $100 K Jeep. Go figure!!!!

The main thing I suppose is that I am thankful that my interior squeaky issues have now been resolved and of all places my local Stephen Wade Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler Dealership in St. George, Utah which in my personal opinion have the best having the knowledge and skills to address any issue relating to the Jeep GC and especially the Trackhawks.:lol:

Thanks for the info and follow up. I am still living with mine. I am scheduled to get my solo exhaust installed this week and see if it will mask the creaks I still hear...

Hello Jasmine,

Sorry for not responding sooner as I have been busy and did not check this site for several days. Anyway, if you read my latest post on this site, I had my TH issues repaired at my local FCA Dealer here in St. George, Utah. My TH was in the dealer shop for 3 days. The roof liner interior had to be pulled off to repair the issue. A big job no doubt, but it fixed the squeaky issues I was complaining about. My FCA dealer especially their mechanic Bobby did a wonderful and through job in taking care of this problem. No more sqeeks is all I can say and I am one happy camper. The Jefferson North Plant really need to pay more attention to detail in the building of these Jeeps especially the ones like the TH costing 100K. thanks for your concern. I appreciate it. Prince
