Hey guys,

I drive a 2015 Limited 4x4 and have noticed a weird noise coming from my rear tailgate area, I believe specifically from the rear spoiler.

It sounds like a tick tick tick or a drip drip drip. I see nothing leaking or dripping out, at first I thought there might be a leak in the rear washer fluid. But I don't see anything.

Anyone know anything about this? Am I alone?

Thanks in advance.

You are not alone.

Mine was doing it again yesterday. It's annoying but doesn't happen all of the time since it's influenced mostly from hot, sunny days.

Thanks. I'm bringing mine in for service on a couple other items (grinding noise on my rear liftgate and a nasty squeal on the sunroof vent) on Wednesday. I was hoping there might be a TSM, sounds like I just have to get them to hear it for themselves. Easier said then done.

I have a similar issue with my 2014. Dealer did some adjustments which helped a little bit but didn't eliminate the noise.

Mine just started doing this. I'm still under my 3-year bumper to bumper. Hope they cover it

Did anyone get a good answer from the dealer as to why this happens? It was fine for the first 2 years.

Thank you Kori.

I've recorded the noise that my sunroof makes as well as the hatch. If they're a respectable dealership they will listen to the customer. I'll let you know if I have any problems.

I can't seem to catch the dripping noise on my phone, but as you can see from this thread I'm not the only one with the issue. You don't happen to know of a TSB I can direct the dealership to tomorrow, do you?

Hey Mark--I didn't find anything on my end in terms of a TSB or Star case, but the dealership may be able to come up with something trying their own search, or based on previous service experience.

Well, the dealer is currently taking my sunroof completely out because they understand the problem but can't figure out why it's happening.

And they will be replacing the rear hatch motor to stop the grinding.

They haven't heard the dripping so I told them to drive for 15-20 minutes and when they hit a stop sign/light listen. Hopefully it works and they hear it.

If this is a sound that is audible at idle (like while stopped at a light), then I have it too. Comes from the rear hatch - like a pop/crunch type sound.

If not I would take the Service Manager or Tech for a ride and and show them the noise you are talking about. Sometimes that is the only way.

Yep that is probably it. I describe it as a dripping noise, but it might be a clicking noise.

I wonder what it would take to get Jeep to look into this. Sounds like there are probably a lot of folks with the same issue.

I think someone else mentioned that this happens on really hot days, and i THINK that is when I noticed it the most. I've gotten used to it, and as long as nothing is damaged or broken, I don't think i'm going to see the dealer about this unless a TSB comes out for it.

I noticed it on cooler days, like 90 and below. Since it's been over 100 here I haven't really heard it. I don't blame you, I wouldn't touch it if it weren't (a) for my daughter constantly bringing it up, and (b) I had the car in the shop for other work anyhow.

My wife noticed it the one day and asked about it - at least now I have somewhat of an answer. It could be worse - the inside could rattle all over the place as if it were all coming loose/apart. So far, this rig has made no noises whatsoever. All I hear when going over uneven ground is the suspension. Everything else is rock solid and quiet.

Well they say they fixed my sunroof but I don't yet know how. Apparantly the ticket is still open and they don't have the tech notes while it's open.

Meanwhile they had to put my car back together so they could order parts for my hatch.

Your not alone. My 14 Overland would make that popping noise in the rear a lot during the warmer days. Super annoying. My 17 has a few noise issues I will be bringing up when I take mine in for the first oil change.

Well as I patiently await the parts to repair my Jeep I figured I'd record and share all the noises I am hearing. Perhaps some of you can confirm if the are the same noises.

Maybe our friendly Jeep Cares reps can share these with their engineers so they know what's actually happening in the field as opposed to whatever the dealers report (probably that us drivers a crazy and don't have any real problems).

I have the same issue with my 2014 GC Overland, especially on warm sunny days. It sounds like a joint or some other connection is expanding due to the heat "pop, pop, pop". It does it while driving or parked.

Took it to the dealer last summer and they took off the spoiler to inspect, put it back on and torqued the bolts to specs. It helped for a bit, but slowly came back...until Fall and cool weather basically makes it go away.

Now that the weather is warming up again, Snap, Crackle and Pop have made their return. Very annoying.

The recall they did on the shifter has also created a rattle, but that's for another thread...

Both my 14 and now my 17 do this. I haven’t pin pointed the location of the noise but it’s coming from the trunk.
