I was picking up some flooring to redo part of the house and it was on a pallet at Lowe's. I was having them load it up into the GC with the forklift so I didn't have to do it piece by piece. The operator was not bad but the employee on the other side of the truck failed to inform the driver they were too close. Me being on the other side, I could not see. This was the result...

In spite of the employees actions, I believe the carpet in the 2014 JGC cargo area is an inferior product compared to other interior materials. After vacation, I found several "fuzzy" areas that were caused by simply moving luggage in an out 4 times. So disappointing!

**** I have a 99 JGC Laredo with 205,000+ miles. Honestly, the carpet in its cargo area doesn't show any wear - only a few slightly soiled areas. I have hauled everything imaginable in its cargo area***

I am going to look into the rubber cargo liner to protect the floor of my '14 storage area, but sadly that will not prevent any damage to the sidewalls.

That was a joke right? You think Lowes should pay because drtbkr had them forklift load a pallet into his WK2? I HOPE Lowes would not pay a dime, and hope even more that no one would think it appropriate to ask them to.

A forklift isn't exactly a precision interment, it's designed to be big/dumb/yellow and speed up the job of heavy lifting. If you want it done gently, it's not the way.

If you ask a Lowes employee to 'go ahead and run it up in there so I don't have to load it,' that's on you (and I think that drtbkr seems to he fine with it being his responsibility).

I do a lot of projects, have to say, my little 10' utility trailer has been fantastic for this type of stuff, sure does make life easier and keep the damage down.

Lowes would probably pay for it. If a forklift is not the right tool for the job, the employee should have said, I can't use the forklift, but will load the vehicle for you.

Now that my hair is almost all grey, they offer to help me even when it is only a couple of bags of mulch. So far I've turned them down ... But maybe next year. :lol:

I used to drive a forklift for Rural King (farm supply store) and people would ask me to do tricky loads like this all the time. Even though we were not legally responsible for any damage to your vehicle while you were in our loading dock, its still just common courtesy to explain to the customer the risks.

Btw, I once had a guy in a 2011 mustang have me tie a very large power-wheel to the top of his car. I made him sign the back of the reciept saying that he was responsible for it first.

I spoke with the manager and he filled out an insurance claim for me. It was an accident so I didnt want anyone to get into trouble for it. He seemed pretty helpful...and oddly not surprised. I should be hearing from them today. I do understand that it was a close fit and damage could be done, but I figured I would ask them anyway...certainly cannot hurt!!

Worse things have happened in the life and a small tear that can be easily fixed does not make me lose sleep at night.

Our local Lowes will not load anything short of a bag of grass seed because of this exact risk. If you have a large or rough load, they point you to the twine and say "have a nice day." I can't believe they agreed to even try to load a pallet into a Jeep. Yikes.

That's my point. If I ask someone to help me do something stupid...that's at my risk. I'm not going to ask them to pay for it if it goes wrong. That's just wrong on a ethical/moral level.

Oof, sorry man, that sucks.

I intend on getting one of the canvasback brand rear cargo liners. After seeing that I might drop the extra $20 on the side panels too. Not sure that it would have prevented that mishap, but if the carpet is as brittle as some say, it couldn't hurt.

Stupid..? Not quite! I asked to load something, they said yes. I have driven a forklift extensively in past jobs and precision is not impossible. It just takes patience and practice. If there were doubts about it fitting or the skill of the operator, a "no, we cant do that" would have been acceptable. It was a mistake and should be taken care of...especially as I just spent thousands of dollars. That is what they have insurance for. Its not wrong at all to ask for a fix.

Now on the flip side, it was a tight fit and I realize that. If nothing comes of the claim, I am not going to raise hell and make a scene to get my way...that would be wrong!

I used to have my forklift license as well. That is no small rub or poke. If I looked at it and couldn't do it I would say so. That doesn't make the person asking me stupid.

I have loaded a grand piano unwrapped using a forklift onto a shelf with nearly zero clearance (why there was no wrapping) it just takes care and thinking.

There is little point in going through the hassle of fixing the carpet and not upgrading the sub while you're there. Probably best to add some amplification for that sub in the spirit of doing the job right the first time. Having done that you will have increased the weight back there enough that for the safety of your family you will have no choice but to install new wheels and tires.

On the other hand maybe i just don't see it the same way as others do....

I would think so...I cant imagine it being that expensive.

Its just a matter of finding it. I havent tried the dealership yet so I assume they would have the means to price it out and order it.
