Anybody thought of trying one of these? Superwinch Winch2Go.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0166H2V0...olid=24UZNCYM8OUX9&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Check out the video of the H2 getting pulled on the amazon link too.

I know its only 4000 pounds but it comes with a pulley/hook (snatch block) for a double line load at 8000 pounds. If I were to always use a double line in conjunction with a 30ft recovery strap for more length, would this work for a wk2? I am also concerned if there was a line break though, would the winch come through the windshield?!

Well... I guess anything is better than nothing... heck, I used a come-along for a million years (hard work) ... but...
General rule of thumb is winch should be 1.5x vehicle weight.
Since it's pretty easy to have a 5000lbs+ WK2, add to that the gear/supplies inside the rig, and even with the double'r you are over the capacity of that winch right from go.
Now, that 1.5x figure is general rule, and typically is not taking into account for ledges/suction/steep pulls. Often in these situations you need the full 1.5x AND the snatch block to double up and get out.
Guessing if you are considering a winch at all, you are likely considering terrain that will involve some/all of the above.
Personally, I would move on... and look at something like this if you need the portability...

Will the line break? Probably not, but, I'd not chance it... either way you'll want something along these lines... if you care about your rig, much less bystanders and yourself...

Heavy blankets work too.

Now, lots of folks like to say that a synthetic line is safer, and, sure, ok... but an acquaintance of mine lost a good friend on the trail due to a synthetic line failure allowing a shackle spring free. I'm sure no more details are required.
So, either way, winch safe and use dampers whether marketing tells you one thing or another.

Those are some good points. I am not really needing portability, I am just trying to save the rather expensive cost for a hidden winch mount and full size winch. I already have the Chief front lower guard so I will be stuck with the Chief winch options and those are pricey! I suppose I could do the Wyeth-Scott 3 ton come-along for now until I can save up the money.
