I'm old. Been married a long time and we have both had decent incomes for most of our lives. Not we're rich but we've done ok. Being a car guy this means I've had a lot of cars. Some not so nice when I was young but as I got older and had come to attain every coffee table a man needs in this life some were very nice.

This leads me to the X factor. I like this car a lot more than I should, or I suppose I should say more than I normally do like a new car. I don't know why this is and this why, that's the X factor. It isn't like I don't have gripes, I do. The performance is fine for what it is but I've had massively more than whats on tap here. In some way the mojo includes the diesel because I was not taken with the car test driving the penta or hemi. I assumed then that this would be the next car I owned for 1 to 3 years like usual. Instead selling isn't even on my road map for the moment because I'm smitten, I have to admit it. I've been here before of course but I could tell you why. Here I can point at a lot of things that I like but I don't really have a definitive, here, this thing, this it what puts it over the top.

This X factor, is it just me? Have you been finding that it all somehow works more so than you expected?

I know exactly what you mean. And, interestingly, the X factor never really goes away. We keep also keep our vehicles because we still like 'em. We drove the JGC Overland diesel and both loved it and we can't wait to order it.

I had a BMW 5 series that I owned for 15 years......loved it, cared for it, serviced it but, when I couldn't do major work on it any more, I traded it in and I felt terrible. Someone got a great car......

We looked for a replacement for it back in 2011 and finally went with a new Kia Optima EX. We looked at a lot of sedans but when we sat in the Kia and drove the car we both said, this is it - the X factor!

We are both retired and mainly use our vehicles for road trips. In 3 years and 36k miles, it's taken us a lot of great places and has been reliable as heck, gets great gas mileage and we've had zero issues/problems.
All I've done is change oil and filters on it. We still like it a LOT (it hasn't lost the X factor!) and it will be SWMBO's car when we get the Overland.

We are trading in her 2005 Subaru Forester LL Bean. Back in 2005 we were looking to replace our 1996 Audi A4q (a problem child!) and SWMBO instantly loved the Forester - again, the X factor. 9 years and 73k miles later, it's been as reliable as hell and only the sunroof not returning fully has been an issue (I just closed it and removed the wiring from the switch!
The Subie has taken us some great places, towed our BMW R1150RT on a Kendon trailer over the Sierra's and Rockies and has been the great little Swiss Army Knife that we needed. We both feel bad about trading the Subie as there is really nothing wrong with it at all. However, even more than the Subie, the JGC will take us everywhere we want to go (more difficult National Park/State Park trails etc) and will trailer the bike (and not even notice it!) plus we now have the option of getting a travel trailer. And, finally, the JGC diesel will actually get us better mileage than the Subie on the highway!

We are fortunate that in our 36 years of marriage, we have a "vulcan mind meld" when it comes to buying auto's and we both recognize that "X" factor !

We hope that our JGC will prove to be as great a vehicle as those mentioned above.

Just filled up, all city miles save a 60 mile round trip for 24.06 calculated at the pump with 22.9 showing in the car.

Our Subie averages a consistent 22mpg with a driving mix such as yours.
However, we are happy to pay the extra 60 cents a gallon for diesel given the added features and comfort of the JGC :thumbsup:!

We will def feel and see the benefits on our road trips though !

Doh, lol. True although I'm coming up on retirement and I have no choice but to get off the train pretty soon. Or crimp our lifestyle in retirement but the Mrs already played a few of these for me lol :violin:

Your only hope is to quit subscribing to all the car magazines. ( I know you get at least 3!)

Do NOT go cruising the car lots, and quit the forums.

Anything less, and you're getting a new car within 24 months. LOL

I personally believe that it takes a good while to decide if a vehicle really has what you call the x factor. But like the show something with an x factor could really make your day but in a short while the thrill is gone. I will also say that JGC so far has me liking it much more than I imagined I would. Guess I am not really a car guy, as I buy what seems to fit my utilitarian needs more than anything else. So Subaru, then 2 Jetta TDI's and now this. I need good mileage for commuting and something to use for hunting fishing. With the Jetta's I had second vehicle . I am in love with Diesel and had how much more expensive it has gotten but I have to think that you still pay less per mile for fuel and I think the engines life time is much longer than gas so it wins there too. I drive over 30 K a year so I need a car that will easily get past the 200K mark.

If this is as trouble free as my Jetta's were I will be a very happy guy because so far I zero buyers remorse.
