It's amazing what AWD/4WD and snow tires are capable of.
Back in the late 90s (might still be going on) the local group of AudiFans members used to get together to race on a frozen lake track. Rode with a guy that had an "American S2" and I could not believe what that car could do on ice with snow tires, though he did over shoot the course end and ended up in a snow bank. Just dropped it into reverse and backed out. No muss, no fuss, no problem.
