Hi Guys,

First post on this forum, looks like a great site, i have got plenty of reading to do!! I have just fitted the Mopar/best bars towbar to my 2011 GC (very easy) but i am trying to figure out the tow capacity. The plate says 2268KG and 250KG tongue down load for cars without AHC (trailer tow prep group) or 3500KG 350 KG with AHC. How can i tell if my car has the trailer tow prep group or not? I bought it as a demo (never buyoing a demo again - new head, new shocks, new steering rack ends, stuck in the middle of nowhere because of the stupid sand mode failure, currently waiting on a power steering pump) so i don't know what the options list looked like but i am guessing it's just stock. It's a petrol V6 motor.

Thanks guys.

(towbar fitting instruction thread to come soon)

All the AU models have the trailer prep. The tow rating is 3500kg for a 2011 model.

Enforcer, are you sure for the V6 petrol?
Although they all have the trailer prep done, the V6 petrol did/does not get the HD brakes and transmission cooler.
MY12-to current MY14 all have a max trailer capacity in the 2000kg range due to this.
The MY11 catalogue says the same as your plate.

See page 16:

Tongue Load Limit (kg)

Sorry to Thead hijack, anybody know why the JGC is rated 3500KG down under and only 3265 in the US? Just curious.... It of course would seem to me the rating should be 3500KG globally like what the Touareg is but funny that it is higher there.

Thanks, again slightly off topic, but the two guys who would know are both here ;)

Willx,
Again, another irregularity between the US and Export models.
The only thing I can put it down to is the different towbars being used. Australia uses a New Zealand manufactured product and not the US made bar, which is apparently not compliant with Aussie standards.
There may be different towing rules in the US which rely on various factors such as vehicle weight, how many bolts are holding the radio together :)lol:) that derive a different figure.

I was only 2/3rd's wrong then
They all have Tow prep, but the V6 cannot tow 3500kg, but the bar does support it.
