Me of my buddies who knows more about cars than I do says my transmission temps seem too high. Just with normal driving mine is staying between 200-210 and when pushing it for awhile it'll get up to 220ish. Is anyone else getting these levels of trans temps? Should I get it checked out.

I think the most I've ever seen mine get to is 201° but it usually sits right at 190-195. Even in the dang traffic on 35 or spirited driving.

Are you constantly getting 220°+?

This weekend I was street drag racing some mustangs and camaros and afterwards I was at 215. But tonight on way home from dinner I checked it and with normal driving it was at 204 which seems high

I asked the service techs, normals are 200 on this 8 speed. 220 seems high, but if it quickly comes back to 204, it would seem normal. if in doubt, make a service appt to make sure the cooler is working right.

Thank you this was very helpful!

I'm getting the same temps as you are. I remember seeing another thread where the OP was noticing "above normal" tranny temps at around 210F or so. I don't recall the exact context, but it didn't appear to be an issue for many who were noticing similar temps. After a spirited run up my local mountain pass (Snoqualmie, WA) I noticed my tranny temp up at 220F to 223F. On my way down, it cooled down relatively quickly to around 200F.

Glad to see this thread as I too thought I had a very hot running transmission.

Normal temps once its warmed up are right around 200, with a spike to 210-220 with some redline sprints. It does cool back down to 200 afterwards.

What about IAT's? I am consistently seeing 20deg over ambient. I don't know if the intake tube is getting heat soaked from the engine bay causing the intake air to heat up, or the IAT probe itself is heating up. Regardless, I think there should be some serious thought into insulating the tube or sensor to try and get the temps closer to outside ambient.

I am very curious about how the IAT affects how much timing is being pulled, how the A/F suffers as a result, and how much power is robbed from the engines potential.

My intake runs very high. I think mine has something to do with my Hennessey intake. The metal heats up way too much. I plan to switch to a unit with a plastic or carbon tube. It doesn't help living in Texas when it's over 100 for the next 3 months.

The 8 speed transmission will run temp of 195 - 205 undernormal driving conditions depending on vehicle load and outside temps. It is not uncommon to see temps as high as 225 when running on a track. The transmission will start to change shift schedules at 235 to help cool the transmission and engine power will be reduced at 250 until trans temp get below 235.
