Thanks for the info tomperu, if the dealer fails to find the issue or gives up on trying to find it, I suppose I will try the DIY route.

I've gone down the rabbit hole once before and tried adding foam padding (cut pieces of the DIY adhesive-backed weatherstrip rolls sold at Home Depot) underneath the washer hoses and plastic panels in the engine compartment. The rattle seemed to go away for a brief period of time, but it's back and it's more consistent than it's ever been. I've checked the foam pieces I added previously and everything was still in place so it may be related to that (in another area), or something new entirely.

Really keeping my fingers crossed that the service department is actually trying to solve the rattle and not just holding out until I tell them I have to have the vehicle back because I'm tired of waiting.

Thanks again for the info tomperu!

Ok, I went through this as well! The dug tape thing. And actually, ithappened to me as well: For a short period, the rattle sound disappeared. Butthen when I found the real culprit, it made sense, as the tape for a shortperiod pressed the surrounding plastic panel. I wonder if this is not your problemas well. Again, I am talking of the following:

If you open the hood you should see a plastic cover surrounding thewhole motor at the left, right and front placed on the body. In mine (2015) itis of 3 large pieces. One caused the rattle next to the headlight. All I had todo is to buffer it with a piece of felt (felt supports heat) between plasticand the metal body and the rattle was gone. Again: due to the structure itsounded in the dashboard, as if it would be inside the cabin. If you have theseplastic covers, take them out and see if it still rattles.

If the dealer fails to find the solution, I'll gladly try something as simple as this.

Either way, there really shouldn't be necessity for a support group for vehicles that cost in upwards of $40K new, have less than 36K miles and rattle like a teapot hanging from the Beverly Hillbillies Oldsmobile, just saying. I appreciate all the suggestions tomperu!

I know it's been quite some time since you posted about this Hindog, but did you ever determine the cause of the rattle?

I've got a 2014 JGC Limited with the 5.7L and it's on its second trip to the dealer for this noise, they've had it for over two weeks so far with no luck finding the culprit. The noise is quite annoying, so much so that I've told them that I don't want it back until they find the problem and fix it.
Hi txvaporguy,
We understand how this could be frustrating and would like to assist you further while you are working with your dealer on this. Please send us a private message with your VIN, phone number, current mileage and servicing dealer.

Just wanted give an update, dealer called this evening and after almost 3 weeks, they seem confident that they have solved the problem. My Jeep was making the rattle very consistently on light acceleration and the service advisor has driven it (after the fixes) and has not been able to reproduce the noise. I will be picking my Jeep up in the morning and will report back in the next week or two to confirm if the problem WAS actually solved. As far as I know, they have done the following:

1. Replaced both motor mounts (this isn't the first time I've heard of lower mileage 5.7L Jeep needing one or more mounts replaced, perhaps the original factory equipped mounts couldn't stand up to the additional engine weight/torque, not sure). They claim that doing this reduced the rattle by about 50%.

2. Replaced front right wheel hub assembly. Unrelated to the rattle, but noisy for a few days before I brought it in. Sounded like a bad tire or bearing, tires looked fine so as it turns out, the bearing was shot. Again, I was shocked to have a bad bearing this soon, but who knows.

3. According to the service advisor, the fix was adjusting the exhaust system. Not sure what that means exactly, but I will try to get more information when I pick it up in the morning.

Anyhow, I am hopeful that the problem is solved and will report back in a week or so if the rattle does not show up again before then.

Thank you to those that have responded to try to help!

Rattle not fixed, although it was reduced to some degree. Fun stuff. I guess I'll wait and see if Jeep advises something else before taking it back to the dealer who just had it for (close to) 3 weeks.

Yes, I was eventually able to solve the rattle.

I'm not 100% positive (since it's been a while since I fixed it and I was trying a lot of things at the time) but I'm pretty sure it was related to vibration of one or more cables/tubing in the engine compartment on the driver's side.

I attached a video so you can see some of the cable ties I have. Guessing that only one of these may actually be needed, but I was too lazy to remove them one-by-one to isolate the root cause. Also, might be hard to see, but I used a foam tube to wrap the wiper fluid tubing that runs along the hood hinge because it was tricky to get a cable tie on that guy.

I would start there, and if the problem persists, let me know and I could probably give you a couple of other things to try.

Good luck!

Thanks for sharing the video and info hindog, unfortunately, I'm can't manage to watch the video on this forum because the video player isn't working. Would it be possible to share a direct link to this video?

Thanks again!

After years of chasing down and eventually just learning to live with this annoying rattle, I can now confirm the cause of the rattle on my 5.7L 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited, the emissions controls lines. More specifically, the hard tubing that runs along the driver's side inner fender well.

Prior to now, I've had to disengage Eco Mode every time I got into the vehicle because doing so helped minimize the rattling when the engine was under load in too high of a gear (very common with Eco Mode). I temporarily placed a piece of rubber mat with tie straps between the line and the fender well and have been driving it for a couple days now with no more rattle.

Huge thank you to everyone who has replied and helped throughout all of this. It feels almost surreal that it's gone after having dealt with this for so long and having been to the dealership multiple times for the issue. The vibration is still present and can be felt, but the audible rattle appears to be gone. I plan to get some high temp rubber or foam to put in place of the temporary fix and will try to update this post if the rattle returns. For now, I'm happy that this rattle I've been chasing for so long may be a thing of the past.
