Which Full Synthetics meet the Chrysler Spec for the V6 (2014)?

I might ignore Approval Specs, but I prefer not. Oils are tricky business lately.

I really would like to run full synthetic, are any approved?

I have a preference for Castrol and 2nd Mobile One, but any full synthetic would be fine.

I believe 0W-20 is recommended and will probably stick with that for year round (New England Climate).

I searched the forum but many threads were dated and was not sure if thing changed (e.g. Mobile 1 meeting spec was "in progress" a while back now).

I'm talking about 2014 V6 if it matters.

Oh, what's all this MDS stuff on the Hemi, does it exist now on 2014 V6.

I assume it's some sort of Oil Monitoring.

It appears my limited does have some sort of Oil monitoring (tracking how many cold starts etc.) is that "MDS"?

They factory fill the SRT with Pennzoil ultra full synthetic . I use the Pennzoil ultra 5w20 in the 5.7L. I was always a Castrol edge fan but going to stay with the ultra on this one.

MDS refers to a hemi

shutting down half the motor to get better fuel economy. Most oils will meet the specs, Penzoil is a factory fill, others like myself use Royal Purple, some Mobil 1, the key to keeping a warranty intact is to be sure it meets API standards. Most oils will , meet API with exception of special formulated raising blends.

5w-20 for the 2014. If you use E-85 fuel, be aware of the following:

Selection Of Engine Oil For Flexible Fuel Vehicles
(E-85) And Gasoline Vehicles

FFV vehicles operated on E-85 require specially formulated
engine oils. These special requirements are included
in MOPAR® engine oils, and in equivalent oils meeting
Chrysler Specification MS-6395. The manufacturer only
recommends engine oils that are API Certified and meet
the requirements of Material Standard MS-6395. MS-6395
contains additional requirements, developed during extensive
fleet testing, to provide additional protection to
Chrysler Group LLC engines. Use MOPAR® or an equivalent
oil meeting the specification MS-6395.

The Owners Manual is your friend.

Mobil 1 0W20 has worked extremely well for me in Northern NH & VT as well as Maine. It's available in the gallon jug at Walmart for less than $20 and then purchase 2 quarts or a second gallong to finish the change.

Mobil 1 0W-20 is fantastic an meets the spec.

This is my first oil change for my 2014 v6 Limited. The manual says to use 5W-20 so I plan on using Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic 5W-20. Walmart has it for around $27 for a 5qt jug + 1qt for $8. The manual says it takes 6qts.

Equally good decision. I just realized the PDF I found on-line was dated and was from Canada, which got me wondering. Ultimately I found that Chrysler spec was retired a number of years ago, so the Chrysler spec listed above should be on no bottle. They have migrated to the API GF-4 industry spec for all their vehicles. Pennzoil's synthetic is fine and I believe there is also a Mobil 1 5w-20, I just use the 0w-20 because it ekes out a little more fuel economy.

The 11 & 12's call for 5w-30. The 13's & 14's call for 5w-20 and (according to Chrysler) this is for improved fuel economy. The 0w-20 might be okay for colder climates, but personally I wouldn't use it.

First, pick your brand in the correct weight. Then check their website to make sure it "meets" Chrysler's spec (as posted in your manual). Watch out for terms like "exceeds". "Exceeds" doesn't necessarily mean they "meet" Chrysler's spec. It means they think they are better. :)
