I had been in the market for a 2014 WK2 for quite some time (specifically waiting for the diesel). To make a long story short, over the weekend I decided to scrap the idea of buying new and traded in my 2011 F150 Ecoboost on a base 2011 WK2 Stone White Laredo E.

After thoroughly researching topics clear back to 2010-2011, I've decided to do (or have done) the following:

1) I have already replaced the manual climate controls with the ACC. Pretty sure I got the last 55111916AP HVAC control module in existence. Worked like a charm!

2) Tinting the front windows to match the rear (either 15 or 20%). This is being done today. Tint laws be damned.

3) Replacing the stock antenna with a shark fin (very near future).

4) Upgrading the stock 17" aluminum wheels to the WK2 18" x 8" polished cast aluminum wheels (1HX65AAAAB). I will do this when the original Fortera's need to be replaced, which will be about another 10K miles.

5) I have done 2 software updates to the stock 130S/RES radio to fix bluetooth streaming audio issues (also worked like a charm).

6) Within a few months, I want to replace the 130S/RES radio with an aftermarket nav head unit. If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears (no, literally, I have big ears)!! At the same time, I'll probably upgrade the door speakers with the hope this will be enough to satisfy me audio-wise.


This all leads me to my ultimate question . . . are there any other simple, cheap mods I can do to my Laredo that I might be missing or that have been popular on the forum?

Welcome. Replace the stock black fog light bezels with the chrome looking ones.. will look much better on the white vehicle.. cheap and easy.

Replace the chrome door strips with the Grand Cherokee letters. Gives your ride a cleaner look as well.

Plasti-dip. It is incredibly cheap, so you can do anything from the Jeep badge to the grille to the entire car spending only a little money.

Can you go into detail on how one would do this. How easy is it to do? Would like to do this on my 2013.

Run a search on it, there are a few very detailed threads. It's easy to do as in there's no wrenching... However getting the adhesive off the doors can be time consuming (and you'll have a fairly sore thumb/finger after its done).

You just use fishing line to cut through the adhesive, pull the strips off, clean and install the new letters.

A 6.95 $ can of plastiDip can be both a cheap and easy mod but also a daunting task for someone who can't paint and mask properly. For me, adding my own air intake (design and production and installation) was easy, cheap but not fast.

Take a can of plastidip to your chrome badges and front grille. Maybe you'll like the black on white contrast. Its cheap, easy, fully reversible and not particularly messy. There's a guy in here who posted his STORM TROOPER 2014 JGC and frankly, it looks spectacular - even for a black-on-black only dude like me.

The plasti dip is a good idea. I just about pulled the trigger on an Altitude grille, but maybe I should dip the chrome grille first to confirm its what I want. I'll probably do the front Jeep logo and rear brow regardless. Need to remove the other badges too.

LED interior lights will be done for sure now, as will the chrome fog bezels.
