Or, we as consumers have a responsibility to know what the products we're purchasing are/are not capable of. The owner's manual is a great place to start, as well as the Jeep website.

Honestly though, who RTFM unless they really have to?

(sometimes I do, but usually I don't)

Not excusing ignorance, just saying marketing can have a lot of influence on peoples' expectations.

It is probably in the fine print at the bottom of the commercial (driver actually stopped vehicle once warned).... The Mercedes commercial I am referring to that is.

Yeah, marketing is HUGE. Having said that, the commercial in question isn't for a Jeep at all. I'm not sure it's fair to assume that any sort of collision mitigation system (or any car tech feature for that matter) is universal across brands.

For example, there are a myriad of lane departure warning systems out there. Some merely beep at the driver to let you know you're drifting out of your lane. Others vibrate a seat cushion that corresponds to the direction you're going. Some even apply opposite brake force to help pull you back into the lane. I think it's up to us to make a properly informed decision when shopping/buying a vehicle, and even more importantly to know what our vehicle will or won't do once we've parked it in our garage.

It sounds like the OP might have a defective system though, and my above comments weren't directed at him/her.

I can tell you I had one experience with the crash avoidance part of the system and it worked well. In heavy stop and go traffic when you are accelerating to 50 or so and then back down to 0 very often it is hard to judge the distances, especially in a new car you are not as familiar with. Traffic a head of me came to a hard stop and I misjudged the distances I was just starting to put the breaks on a little and before I knew it I was almost on top of the car in front of me. My jeep saw this and stood on the brakes hard before I even could react and I stopped with antilock breaks clattering within about a foot. It was not a gingerly little tap it knew I was not on them enough for the situation and it got on them hard. Now would I have been able to eventully react and get the car stopped entirely on my own maybe, maybe not. The crash avoidance part of it brakes late and hard, no way to ever test that safely its an emergency situation type thing.
The warning part on the other hand I have had go off before if I come up on a car to quickly and close when I intend to cut over to a lane free of traffic.
I think the system works well and as intended. Mine is a 2014 Summit built in mid march.

Mine is a 2013 Overland and it has worked very well for myself and my wife. Mostly when people are pulling over in my lane to quick, but it goes off very well. If I am already on the brake it does not alert, which I think is how it was designed. I like it and don't think this is a wide spread issue.

I have a 2014 JGC Overland 1000KM with the same issue as Drwilki2, FCW never worked from day one. It's enabled, I did try testing it many times with no luck, no audio /visual alerts. Took it back to the dealer, they ran a Diagnostic scan and said the Jeep is fine. Still not working, I'm going to another dealer later this week for a second opinion.

You have the FCW set to "far" ??

Willx, thanks for the response, yes it's set to Far now, had it set to Near earlier in the week, makes no difference.. Kinda sucks when u spend practically 2 days at the dealer on a 2 weeks old JGC, also have transmission shifting rough in low speed issue, I removed the battery as some suggested, did not help, dealer said it's because I have the ECO switch enable and using regular unleaded fuel.. Hope this is not a trend with the Jeep dealers...

The FCW is really only supposed to warn you in imminent crash situations. even in "far" the system is hard to trick.... trust me two of us here spent a great deal of time getting it to happen but it does in the situations it should. Contrary to the OP, there is no known failures of this system (TMK) and all of them have been proven good.

On the transmission shift issue, try driving it with ECO off for a day and see if you notice a positive difference. IMHO the 1/2 shift is a little harsh however the speed at which this happens and the fuel economy improvements this makes are a little bit at fault. If it is shifting harsh still with ECO off (and entertain the dealer, try premium once and save the receipt) then there may be a problem. I always say, bring the evidence that their theory is not correct. I have seen occations with tranny fliud down ever so slightly from factory fill that caused this (not on a 2014 JGC)

Anyway, not downplaying your problems as you may have actual issues in either case. Just offering my point of view based on what I see and hear.

Willx, thanks.. Will drive it for another few weeks and see if the FCW works.. The salesman and the owner of the dealership I bought the Jeep from said prior to me purchasing the truck that they have FCW on their vehicles and it's annoying at times due to the frequent alerting.. Taught by now I would have seen at least one alert... As for the Eco switch will drive with it off for a bit and see if it helps.. Will also check the transmission fluid.. Appreciate the feedback..

no worries, any time....

The current FCW was improved as the old one was way to sensitive. It is really only supposed to go off to prevent injuries. Forward Collision Warning wouldn't be true if it beeped at you just because you brake late.

I didn't have any FCW warning after driving my 2014 GC for a week. So I checked the user guide and I found out that there is a "FCW off" button under the climate control (next to "ECO on" button. Mine is turned off when I picked up the car (the LED is on) and it reminds off. I am not sure why, but it seems that someone turned it off before I picked up the car.

I always think that if the EVIC sets it to "far" or "near", the function shall be on, but I may be wrong. There is a FCW button to turn it on and off.

Is your FCW button's LED on? According to user guide, the FCW is off if the LED is on.

I will try it tomorrow to see if this is the reason that I never get the FCW warning.

Jeez, someone differing experiences here.

I'll add mine to a working FCW . Car turning out in front of me, brake brake brak brake carry on On the front dash.

Instantly decided it was a stupid over active system, and I did not want a car with such a feature. It would drive me crazy, I imagine that someone who drove more pleasantly than I did, would never hear an alarm, but anyone who drives point to point with time in mind is going to get a whole lot of ear bashing from a computer. ;)
