So i have been working on my 2 row overland to remove all that Chrome.
The only replacement parts i got were the 7 grill rings (part number 7GS66DX8AA). I used Hyperdip Shadow black (similar to plasti dip) to hide all that chrome.
Still thinking about blacking out the rims.

My concern with plastic dip or similar products is once rocks or even bugs start plastering it, how is it going to look?
one small chip and the pressure washer is going to have its way with it.
I’m interested in the one year review of pladtidipped chrome.
so far it looks great! And if nothing else shows what the modern overland should of looked like…
Chrome is an old man’s jewelry… looks cheap today.

Looks fantastic! I see a summer project for myself!

LOL, I agree, I hate all the chrome! My last SUV had the blackout package and I am struggling with all the chrome on this vehicle and all the $$$$ I see trying to get rid of it!

Used plastidip on our 2014, even years later it looks great, everything but rims that stuff really works, you need at least 4-5 coats so it is thick...
I used white and black. White for the chrome mirror caps and the black exterior shark fin antenna on the roof.
Yes, the white will get yellowish over time but all I do is use paint polish and it is white again, doing that for years, now the WK2 is 9 years old and couldn't be more happy with PlastiDip or what ever it is called :) It is not shiny, it is flat white or black, even with that glossifier coating they sell...

According to the invoice it adds up to $722.09
Both Rails $279.74 (includes the whole bottom pieces that attaches to roof as well as the black metal trim. Just not the top plastic rail part.
Everything else: $442.35
--> Some of these are 3 to 4 pieces. Except for the grille we know is 7 pieces.

If you want a part break down let me know. I can post it later.
Crazy if it’s that cheap in parts, a chrome delete on a wk2 is over 3k easy. The back window trim was like entirely new windows and 1400 or something.

Thank you!
I did the window trim myself with 3M wrap. I'll probably get them painted later on along with the top chrome part of the door handle.
I am not sure why the handles came half chrome when it said body color matches door handles.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I posted mine in another thread of the factory black parts installed.
Looks great, OP — stealthy! I used a combination of Plasti-Dip, vinyl, and parts to black-out mine. Plasti-Dip is holding up surprisingly well, and I travel through grasshopper country once or twice a year.

It looks really nice! Curious if you have any tips for using hyper dip for the chrome trim piece that runs directly under the head lights? That area looks a little tricky.
Looks really good!

On my '14 Overland I used Plastidip on the wheels, some trim and red for the front tow hooks. Tow hooks and trim held up really well but the wheels were a constant maintenance issue. Winter was the worst.

I'd like to do some of this work on my '22 SR. Thanks for the parts.
Porknbeans- how many miles do you drive a year and what conditions? Curious on how wheels hold up w plastidip or hyperdip. I only drive 5-7k a year so hoping that would help.

When I had the Overland, I was putting on about 30k a year. To offer some frame of reference, this was traveling in the upper Midwest. Obviously, a great deal of highway/interstate traveling but also a good amount of gravel, back roads and hunting terrain. I'm not afraid to get my truck muddy. It is a Jeep after all. :)
Porknbeans- that’s really helpful. I’m thinking hyperdip may be a good solution for me and will hold up for a few years. Not ready to buy new wheels $$$.

In Orlando, FL was just quoted today $1500 for chrome delete from an auto wrap place + $1200 to powder coat the wheels black. I thought the chrome delete seemed high, but maybe not? I have a WL 2022 Limited 2 row.
So when I said 3K, I was talking about all Mopar parts, which is very expensive on the WK2's because the back 1/4 panel window trim is actually part of the same piece as the glass, so you have to replace the entire window, which is of course not worth it at over 750 a window, plus labor.

Now, I did also get a quote to do a chrome delete with vinyl, from a shop: It was 1800. The thing is, it was partial for them, because I've already done all my badges, and the grill. So honestly your quote sounds right about where mine was, no rims on my quote.

This is actually consistent with other manufacturers who have a "blackened" trim level when folks go to buy the OEM parts to roll their own. (That happens most often when the "blackened" option isn't available on, say, a higher trim and someone wants the features in addition to the look) It can be thousands for OEM parts...they may be black but they are clearly gold plated, too.
