OK folks, here is the current status of trailer towing equipment available on the 2023 Grand Cherokee up to but not including the Summit Reserve (top of the line) model which DOES include a Class IV hitch.

In order to equip all other trims for towing, you need to order the "trailer tow prep group" which includes:
18-Inch Full-Size Steel Spare Wheel
220-Amp Alternator
Automatic Headlamp Leveling System
Full Size Spare Tire
Heavy-Duty Engine Cooling
Rear Load-Leveling Suspension
Trailer-Hitch Zoom
It DOES NOT include a hitch receiver ($420) or the required wiring harness ($405) which was a big surprise to me (and my dealer) when my Limited was delivered.

I have spent several days, phone calls, emails, and internet searches to try to find the correct part numbers- dealer's search using my VIN did not show any available. Many Mopar part searches show fitment on my model but they will not match with the VIN.
I contacted 5 different dealers and I finally was able to get the correct part numbers- there is a great deal of confusion within the dealerships as to fitment, availability, and all parts required for the install. I was finally able to get valid info from a dealer in IL. that had done the install.

In addition to these parts, a wiring harness/ brake controller is required. Many brands offer a plug and play cable that eliminates the need to rewire.

The OEM parts for my GCL (WL 2 row) are:

Hitch receiver Mopar 82219040AA (this is a class III hitch)
Wiring harness Mopar 82216041AD

This is a dealer install since much of the interior must be disassembled for the wiring.
When I gave these #'s to my dealer parts guy, he plugged them into the computer and they magically showed compatibility. I think part of the problem is the data base hasn't been updated for 2023 but JEEP has been no help. two of the dealers I called contacted Jeep and were told that there were no parts to fit my GCL.

BTW, There is also an OEM brake controller/ install kit(similar to the Redarc) that is available from Mopar: 82215834AC

I hope this clears up some of the misinformation that is out there.

the mopar brake controller is similar in looks only and you lose your 12v port. The mopar one is the same as a $30 controller. You set it to a number and it adds the same amount of braking every time no matter how hard you hit the brakes. unlike the Redarc that gives it more or less braking based on how you are slowing down. the mopar one also cost much more then the redarc. TPH-004 is the correct wiring adapter for the WL74/75

to install it on the center console the whole console has to come apart just like the mopar one. But all you need is to drill a 10mm hole anywhere to put the switch. The control unit can be mounted anywhere, any way. If you mounted it in the panel under the steering wheel it would take maybe 30 min. It took me maybe 3 hours doing this never doing it before.

Looks doable but not easy. I like locating the Redarc control next to the 12 V outlet. Thanks much!

here is the pdf of the mopar install. I used this to take mine apart. the order the console comes apart in this is wrong though. You have to start with the storage compartment then the cup holders. before you can get the front panel off. The radio display seems like you're going to break it before it pops off. Get a new pair of Mechanics gloves or you will leave some DNA in there. The plastic behind the panel should be trimmed so you can put the controller lower. I didn't think about the angle. I cant see numbers on the top. Not that that really matters.

Thanks for the heads up! Just started shopping for a WL and have been looking for this info. The idea of pulling apart the interior on a brand new car feels absolutely crazy, save for a problem with OEM equipment.

VERY helpful! Couldn't do it without the PDF and your comments but with the Redarc which is much more capable and the Mopar is ridiculously overpriced. Thanks again!

Unless you're just really into modifications and want to tear into your dash, you might consider the Curt brake controller. It plugs in-between the tow vehicle and trailer at the 7- pin connector. Bluetooth setup and control from phone. Works perfectly when towing my Flagstaff TT.

I bought one of these but haven't used it yet ( still waiting on hitch install). After I purchased, I found a link for reviews which were overwhelmingly negative. Most of them were over a year or two old so hope that is not still the case. Glad to hear you are happy with it. The only drawback I see is the ease of theft. It should be fairly easy to rig a security cable/clamp to make it more secure. Thanks for the input!
