I think that is a little dramatic. Most vehicles I’ve owned have had a recall for one reason or another without anything dramatic. I think the only ones that didn’t were my WK2s, but at 2016 and 2019 that platform was well worked through at that point.

My May '13 build, '14 Overland had a ton of recalls. So many that FCA gave me a $150 Mopar gift card to say "sorry". Ten years later, it's been the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. I'm 70 and have owned quite a few.

I haven’t read or heard of any intermediate shafts actually failing. I bet 99% of customers will go have it checked for slop/play, be told everything is fine and sent in their merry way.
However.. I do notice a slight change in steering feedback in long sweeping corners at highway speed.
Best way to describe what I’m noticing is.
it’s like the electronic steering is switching from sport to comfort mode intermittently mid corner.
completely manageable but odd.
steering weights up initially then lightens.
I have no slop or play in my steering wheel when at rest.
(Had my intermediate shat replaced on my ram for excessive play, so I’m familiar with those symptoms)

for the record I have my steering setting set to sport full time. I should try comfort mode to better troubleshoot this issue. But coming from the SRT I was used to a more solid, direct steering feel.

Recalls are a good thing because it's the manufacturer stating that there is a potential issue that can affect the operation and safety of the range of VINS for the involved vehicle and that they are taking steps to rectify it. There was a time when manufacturers didn't step up...

Only steering related issue i have is with the low speed turn that creates the scraping noise/feel

If recalls are a good thing, then FORD must be the best auto company in the world, since they've been recalling everything lately. Better than a recall is to design and build it right in the first place......

Still better than not doing a recall when there is an issue to be recalled

No matter how many millions of dollars are spent on research and development, there is always something that shows itself after production.
this issue affects 1% (as with most recalls)

even your grandmothers beige Toyota has recalls.

Yeah thats somewhat true for the latest batches of Fords including some of their EV's.
However my '16 F150 which knock on wood has been entirely trouble free at 51K miles.

Only got one recall form Ford to fix a frozen door latch issue which i blew off cause don't have that problem.
That recall entails removing the door panels.....what could possibly go wrong.
Recalls including serious ones is an effort to increase overall reliability and safety issue concerns.
Think Windows 10 which in the near future is soon to become obsolete but currently still has a bunch and some long updates.

Thats a reason i will never buy a first production vehicle model year because those customers whether they know it or not are typically beta testers.
The maybe better news is the recalls are generally free but with the hassle of having to bring the vehicle in to the dealership.

Went through several generation of powerstroke diesels with issues that weren't recalled. Anything between 7.3 and 6.7 was a bad experience

just check on NHTSA to see if your VIN applies. probably a software update for real world conditional driving- things engineers just dont forcast - cuz they are human

Yep! Closer to home for me are the '18 GC's with their delaminated Uconnect screens.

not sure to be honest "...part of their steering systems could fail. If this happens, drivers could lose control of the vehicle and cause a crash"

I like steering and brakes to work, the rest is optional ;-)

You right, and I much prefer proactivity over a fiasco, no question about that, a recall properly done is totally fine with me.
Me waiting for that inline 6 to come out, then I may just upgrade....

Just scheduled mine at my local dealer and the soonest they could get me in is August 3rd. Guess we will just have to ride on luck till then. Not much of a safety issue it seems.
